You can't test all the characteristics of a FS2002/FS8 aircraft with FS2004/FS9. There are quite a few differences between the two. As you found out, you had no problems with it in FS2004/FS9. But will in FS2002/FS8.
I don't have FS2002/FS8. But I have fixed alot of different problems by knowing what to look for and where. So give me till tomorrow to see what I can find.

Good and bad news.
I checked the .cfg and the .air files. I could not find anything in either one that controlled it.
Also checked the gauges panel and controllers. Also, nothing there.
That's the good news.
Now the bad.
It is possible that it is controlled through the model. And if it is, then your out of luck.
I don't know what your options are inside FS2002. There maybe an area that you can turn it off. Check your realism settings in it.
Otherwise, there is nothing I can do to turn it off, or change the settings.
