I had just been reading the forums at ASUS and I ran across this tid-bit of info:
| Quote: | | Intel changed the microcode of the QX9650 retail/OEM chips at the last minute before launch, and is not releasing the code to Nvidia until it agrees to grant SLI license to Intel, as a result no Nvidia chipset based motherboards can support the new chip as of now. eVGA is currently working on a BIOS for their 680i boards by cracking the code themselves. Asus is probably doing the same. |
This makes me a bit irritated... I have spent a lot of time cross checking the components for Nvidia compatibility and now I find out that the chip won't work with the Nvidia chip set boards!
What a bummer! But the fix is just a BIOS update away on the bright side.
I don't really want to get a lower capability chip just for the sake of function, that to me is like buying a really nice and straight, tricked out, fully race capable 1963 Corvette and powering it with a 2 stroke lawn mower engine.
Let the waiting game begin... This is good info to have though, I could have easily dropped three thousand into this and got it all assembled and had it not work due to a CPU/chip set incompatibility. |
