SWEEET.... I'm in front of the power company, cable, water, etc, etc.
Actually, I'm surprised to make the list, even being "under" or "behind" the babysitter is cool.
Look here I've not heard from you for all of a month, I had a week with my daughter up in jolly ol' Scotland and after a week a home flew with Skybird from LHR5 to Rome. When in Rome do as the Romans do - we did loads Palatine - Forum - Coloseium - Spandish Steps - Trevi - lots of vino lovely grub lots of sun +40 most days.
And now I off on another round the world trip in MA-DEE more publicity for our girl, anyone want to come along I left Birmingham, UK at midnight en route for Wick in Scotland, then across the German Sea to Bergen then North to Bono then over the top if I can find my charts, would be nice to have some company though I'm not that keen on polar bears
LEG ONE 362 miles
I made it out of Birmingham England at midnight climbed to 5000 feet and headed north arriving at Wick, Scotland at 3am.
My! how small that runway looked in the dark, anyway one brisk circuit and down we came, once off the runway I discovered half the arfield is not lit, bit suprising with the amount of traffic even at that late hour.
Once parked a quick refuel followed by haggis & chips and a huge mug of tea, and then at 4am out to MA-DEE for our 2nd leg across the North Sea to Bergen.
LEG TWO 276 miles
Don't try changing the fuel tanks in flight, I thought I should know what if anything happens, I'll tell you what happens I lost power in the port engine, only way to rectify it was to shut it down then restart it, then as soon as was running sweetly I lost power in the starboard engine, so sucessfully repeated the above.
If you know a better way of changing tanks I'ld like to hear it.
Arrived in Bergen in gale force winds and torrential wind, so one we were refueled I went into the cabin and got my head down for a well earned rest.
No let up in the weather with cloud down to the floor I decided to wait till today for leg three, went up to the pilots club, much discussion of maddie's abduction as nobody missed seeing your wonderful paint job on
MA-DEE.
LEG THREE 657 miles
Today Sunday dawned bright and clear so at 8am we took off climbed to 11000 and headed north, the mountains around Sogne Fiord are still covered with a layer of snow but after 40 miles or so we left it behind as we were passed to Trodheim Centre, and started to follow the coast.
This is a long ol' leg north to Tromso, the radio gets quiet up here it's a relief to hear Trodheim Centre talking to a Piper though didn't see it, lots & lots of aparently uninhabited islands on this coast, though we have seen a few fishing boats, just as I spoke we flew over Ryum not much life on the airfield.
At 1145 handed over to Bodo Centre as we pass over Stokka Airfield & looking down I saw a Transvaal lifing off, wonder if he.ll be coming our way I thought, would be nice to have someone to talk to, Yes here he comes lumbering into the blue.
I might note that quite a few peaks here are still capped with snow but it's far from universal. I think Bodo were playing games with me first I change to Approach then handed back to Centre then back to Approach then back to Centre, here we go again 119.700 here we go again, roger Bodo. hope theyv'e had their fun, here is Bodo off our port bow, lots of activity here with a Nimrod in the circuit and that Transvaal joining downwind.
119.7000 for //bodo approach 126.700 bodo centre here we go again not again, and again, all quiet I guess someone else is getting the Bodo treatment! Great coversationalist these norwegians you know, now we get passed to Bardufoss and back again prior to our descent to 5800 line up hello Tromso MA-DEE Beech Kingair to Land - MA-DEE cleared to Land here we go pure textbook, gentle bounce just a short burst of reverse and here we are.
Tomorrow Leg Four - Svalbard Longyear in the frozen North see if I can download a chart from Google Maps never go far without my laptop. Hope some of you guys are following its really all good clean fun.
Ho Ho Ho - Green Giant
see ya soon baby!
Tata for now
Percy Prune Wg Cmdr CDM & Bar
just for a change it's just started raining
Hello Chaps, Prune here again, What's that I hear you say?
"Oh no! Not that old sod again"
Well yes, actually ol' boy! its me twinkle toes....
Where are we, Ah yes LEG 4 Tromso - Longyear
Got out of my sleeping bad at 0230 had a quick wash etc collected sandwiches and a huge flask of hot strong coffee from the canteen and got MA-DEE ready for a 0300 departure, OK out we come, Runway heading to 6000, then 320 at 12,000 hand over Bodo Centre 127.7 not them again but strangly not up to there hand over game today I hope.
We've heavy haze to 5000 but up here clear blue sky with a few cotton wool clouds about all the way up to 28,000 we got above the clouds at 30,000.
Stick her on George, and lie back and get a bit of a cat nap...zzzzz
zzzzz zzzzz Whats that? descend to 22,000 surely not says I looking out of steamed up windows, well suprise! suprise! we are over land, descent to 16,000 what! give us a chance ol' boy.
Still a bit of a haze but forgot its not yet 0900, bit of snow on mountain tops though cloud increasing the further north we go. "you are 53 miles South turn 315 descend and maintain 10,000 ILS Runway 10" looks like Radar are bringing us in over the sea which may inprove the vis a bit, I can see where Longyearben should be having been here once before in a Piper Arrow III vey dodgy just one engine 10 minutes to go thats an ETA of 0850 just under 3 hours, (like to do my simming in real-time)
Whats that! Blood* Bodo disconected IFR, Ok got re-connected but their instructions total balony, so will go in VFR. Last time I was here it was winter with the sea a mase of ice but now I see that the runway at tis end sticks out into the sea a bit like Kai Tak!
Whoops steady now, severe crosswind across the threshold but got us down in one piece. This is one lonely place, Three Hangers all locked up dowhere for any shelter in the weather turns bad.
Having flown only 3 hours today I wondered if we should push on to Resolute Bay while the weather holds though I consider the risk of landing in the dark is not appealing at all.
Leg 4 ENSB - EYRB we,ll do tomorrow my missgivings being cancelled by the airfield manager Igor Svenson turning up in a huge 4X4 offering lunch.
Prune here, well we took off at 0400 for Resolute CYRB and cimbed out on a heading off 320 as we cimbed up to 40,000 (didn't think this old girl would get up there) I had problems with starboard throttle not in sync with the port, and when we got to the top of our climb and were over the pack ice I noticed fuel flow differences LH 3.0 & RH 3.4. an hour later I note that its fallen more LH 2.0 RH 2.4 and also I note that torque is uneven with LH at 5% & RH at 6% Any flight engineers that can advise me If we suddenly loose all power our current position is N82.21 & W23 6.48 on a heading of 318.

Hello old boy ,sounds as though you have icing somewhere but from FL400 you could glide forever in a Beech. Sounds as though you are having an interesting time ,how's about some pic's of the snow bunnies .Boldpilot

Hi Wing Commander, you may want to chat with Groundsquirrel regarding this problem, he has worked extensivly on this baby, and introduced a few modifications......... Did you engage Prop Sync ?
Rumor has it, GS only walks at night, a ghostly figure hovering on a wispy white cloud, not many have seen him, but the ones who have, reported an icy chill in the air, as he merges from aircraft to aircraft, repairing them at the dead of night...........
Beware........... if he finds a fix, he may demand part of your soul as payment........
