| When flying the Boeing 737, the approach goes well until I get on short final about 160K, flaps 25, gear down and at that point I loose all lateral control and frequently miss the runway and crash unless I go around. I have discovered that if I go to display setting, and move all settings to low, that it solves the problem, and I maintain control all the way down to the runway. Now my problem is that I don't understand why it is necessary to change the display settings, since my computer seems to greatly exceed the requirement for FS2002, ie. 2.5Ghz processor, 1.5G Ram, 60G Hard Drive and Verto FX5200 Ge Force video card. |

It does seem mighty strange, if what you say is the case....... Need to give this one some thought.

| it is way off in left field, but are ANY of your autopilot turned on? A/P? Autothrottle? Heading? Direction? Airspeed hold? Altitude hold? any of these? Are you trying to ILS Land, or manually? If you are trying to do it by instruments (*ILS*) then it may be a problem in your gauges. Make sure everything is OFF and go in manually and see if that makes a difference. If not, and you have been doing it manually, im sure RD will be along shortly and will have some better advice than I can give. |

It seems strange to me also. I double checked all my computer specs and they are all correct |

All of the autopilot switces are off. I am landing manually, but following the ILS path. Everything is great when I degrade the graphics, but it seems to me it shouldn't be necessary with this computer and graphics card. I am new to FS2002 and really enjoy the program. I have ordered a FS2004 but am afraid I will have the same problem with it. I picked up this copy of FS2002 for $10 at a discount store. Could that be the problem? |

Does the aircraft lose lateral control when switched through all views...'panel', 'virtual cockpit' 'spot', 'tower', etc. I've never, ever heard of loss of aircraft control due to a graphics setting. This one's strange.  |

I just tried it in virtual cockpit and the default graphic settings,and it seemed to be much better. The only problem is in virtual cockpit I have a little trouble seeing the instruments. The problem seems to occur when the picture of the runway changes to have the runway marking etc. I am an instrument rated pilot but all of my real time is in puddel jumpers and this heavy metal is totally new to me but very interesting. |

Cant you pan around in VC, and zoom in on the items you need to see or use ?
I know it still doesn't solve the probelm.

I didn't know you could do that, but will try it. I am new to FS2002 I have been flying an Elite IFR porgram for years but it is very limited to the number of aircraft and the scenery is not good except for the runway environment. Do you think it will solve my problem if I go to FS2004? If so, I'll just switch to that. |

I am using the Elite Pro Panel II which has a yoke, gear switch, and flap switch. Am using Cirrus USB rudder pedals. I had to install drivers to get the Pro Panel II to work with FS02
Not sure if you have a hat switch on that one, if so, you should be able to pan around in VC, and use the "-" "+" keys to zoom in and out.
At least it will keep you flying until we get to the bottom of it.

Are your frame rates decent? It's not bad framerates that cause your loss of control, eh? Can we narrow things down a bit?
Does the FS2002 Hardware settings page indicate your card specifically as the primary video card?
You have all axis' of movement with a joystick with no problems until you are very close to the runway on final approach and then what....some scenery textures try to render and suddenly you can't use ailerons....or rudders...or what?  What the heck is up with loss of control due to increasing display settings?
What display settings are you cranking up that makes your aircraft act funny?
Your rig should handle FS2002 with most settings high....there might be some other weirdness going on that we have to narrow down to. Very strange...but we like 'very strange' around here because it's much better than 'very boring'.
The only thing that I remember that relates here is a 'glitch' or 'bug' with FS2002 that had all aircraft not being able to unlock the wing leveller after disengaging the autopilot. There are several fixes for this on the better flightsim sites download pages. Probably right in our own if you search well. I'll be on and off of SurClaro for the next few hours and will help if I can. Weird. |

I wasn't able to find the FS2002 hardware setting page. Once I get on short final with default graphics settings, I can put in full aileron and the view of the runway tilts like it is supposed to but the aircraft doesn't turn. |

I found the hardware setting page and the full screen display device is set to the video card. Under the full screen display resolution is set to 800x600x32. Is this the correct setting for resolution? |

As far as your video card, not sure what a Verto is, but GeForce shows a 128MB version of that card. 800X600X32 might be best unless the card can go higher, try it and see. Keep in mind though 128 MB for a video card isn't much.
I have never heard of or seen what you're describing, even on pre 1.0 GHz CPU systems where video cards were much less than 128MB.
Is this a downloaded aircraft? If it is can you provide the type and where you got it from? A link would be best to where you got it would be best. |
