Dear Forum members,

Does anyone know how to make gun effects as good as CFS?
All the FSX gun effects I have seen are visible through most objects.
All help accepted. Very Happy

CFS is a different animal than the Flight Sims (FS98, FS200, FS2004, FSX).

I only know through screenshots of what CFS does, and can do. But the way the FSims were built, modelled, and coded, it is not possible.

However, there are some effects, that you can shoot missles, and leave fireballs all over the planet. Heck, there is even a Nuclear weapon effect available for FS9. Only bad thing is, it doesn't really destroy the buildings. But is awesome. And it is only available here.

Here is a site, but the effects are for FS2002. They may very well work in FS2004, and I might even test a few and post results sometime. Why not have a go yourself and see what happens. I think he has a wing gun effect in there, with falling shells and tracer effects. As RD mentioned, weapons in FS don't do what weapons in CFS do.....you can't hit aircraft or scenery with the ammo, there are a few effects around that react to 'terrain only' though, and will result in the fireballs that RD refers to. Also look around for Mike Fitzgarald's missile effects, I believe they work for FS2004.

If it's found that the Chris Trotter stuff works in FS2004 but only partially, there are ways to fix, or to change the effects files, but it gets a bit tedious...no promises here, just some pointers to the goods. If need be, there are places to go and learn how to play with, or alter or create your own effects.
Here's the one site with the FS2002 collection....he never did get around to the FS2004 effects page, and does not update the site. Grab what you want to play with now, as he has mentioned that he intends to let the site die.

EDIT: O.K.,....tested the Chris Trotter FS2002 machine gun effect in fs2004. I wouldn't even bother if I were you - the shells don't render properly and the placement would be a pain to get right ...the whole thang is just cheesy in FS2004. If only I had more 'development' time I would look at effects in more depth, but I'm swamped with my own messes, LOL. The search for decent effects that suit you is half the fun though, link us up if you find good stuff!

'nother EDIT:
You could always register here and try the last three FX on the page...

If anybody has FS2002 effects that they want working in FS9/FS2004, let me know. I can get them to work in FS9/FS2004

You must send me the link, filename and author of the effect.

OK, then I can also make them work for FSX, too.

And if need be, I can add sound to it. Something you couldn't do untill FSX.

ib_cannon , made by ickie , http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?loc=downloads&FileType=fs2k4&page=downloads&Category=effects#download

Some sound would be nice, but is not neccessary. (If your short on time don't bother)

Thanks alot.

Thank you very much.

I will start on it tomorrow. I got it, and fixed it so it doesn't crash my own effects. I am also going to modify it to where you see the missle shooting, have some fireballs hit the ground and then the smoke and crater effect.
ALL WITH SOUNDS.

Just need some time to do it. I will keep you posted on it with some screenies.

Hey RD, just checking back to see if you remembered this old thread and my request for the missile. If you forgot, just let me know, I don't mind. I realise life can get quite busy and get in the way of everything else. If not, can we see some screenshots? I'd really like to see how it's comming.
