hello guys,
My problem or doubt is that with B737-900, when reaching certain altitude(around 7,000ft)
,the airspeed between the GPS AND navigation panels airspeed, there is a vast amount of difference(nearly half). And so I dont know which to rely on and unable to put the automatic pilot......
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

That's because your panel speed is set to indicate KIAS, or Knots Indicated AirSpeed. That's the speed of the wind traveling past your aircraft. The GPS on the other hand, measures ground speed, or the speed you're traveling at in relation to the ground. When you fly at a higher altitude, the air is thinner, therefore less air whips past your aircraft. But ground speed is ground speed, it's the same no matter how much air is moving past.
The cruise speed that's given in knots usually refers to ground speed. |
