Here's my near approach stall story Behrentzs.
It was a beutiful day at Shenandoah Regional Airport and I was going
to practice landings and departures. I had already been flying for about
four months at the time. Anyway, I preflighted Cherokee 262DP and got
into the plane with my instructor. I called UNICOM, "Cherokee 262DP is
on the back ramp request the active runway." The lady in UNICOM gave me the active runway, runway 23.
I taxied to the active via taxiway Delta.
I did the engine run-up and checked around the pattern for other aircraft.
Then I taxied onto the active runway and began my take-off.
I watched the airspeed and engine gauges, when I reached rotation speed,
I pulled back gently on the yoke. I was in the air. Anyway, I did a few
take-offs and landings and on my last (sixth for the day), I flew my approach rather high. My instructor had told me earlier that morning to
keep my eyes on the end of the runway and try to keep it in approximately
the same perspective all the way to the flare. Well, I guess I tried a little too
hard. As I saw the runway change perspective a little, I pulled back on
the stick without checking my speed first. (I was still about 75 feet in the air) The plane began to descend rather rapidly and I began to increase the
throttle slowly as I had previously been told not to advance it too fast.
My instructor quickly pushed my hand aside and advanced the throttle so
fast I thought he was going to blow the engine up. Anyway, we landed all in
one piece and I made it home.

SHEESH
That could have been really really bad. I fly a cherokee too and have always had nightmares about that. Its good that you have an instructor that acts fast. Mine is about 80 years old
What kind of Cherokee do you fly? |

Dear King OF air350,
I used to fly a 1973 Cherokee Cruiser PA-28-140.
I don't fly 262DP any more because we moved away from KSHD.
I am now looking for a new flight school near KGSO.
P.S. Was it just 262DP or are all Cherokees heavy?
The one I flew landed like a dinosaur.
Dear Harkonnen,
Thank you.
Regards,
