You'll definitely be able to run FSX, but not with all the bells and whistles. How much are you spending for the 7300GT? There are cards that don't cost much more that will give you better quality, frames, and have DX10 support.

The only problem I see is the power supply. 550w would be the lowest I would go.

Otherwise, I woud recommend something around 750w for a power supply unit. Everything else looks fine. Although I have to agree with heeshung on the graphic card choice.

Why go SLI 7300gt? Why not spend $90 on an 8600gt? That way, you won't have to worry about excessive power drainage via an SLI system. You would need a very powerful PSU to go SLI. By using one powerful midrange card you eliminate this need.

Benefits of the 8600gt:

  • DX10!!!
  • Highly Overclockable
  • GDDR3 RAM
  • 65nm GPU (less power usage, cooler operation)
  • No connection to the PSU required. Power is drawn from the PCI Express slot only!!!

It's really up to you. I recommend the 8600gt over SLI 7300gt. HOWEVER, I haven't seen real benchmarks to prove my point. I just speak from experience.

Psst...I'm running an overclocked (volt-modded too!) 8600gt and I can play FSX with (almost) all the bells and whistles.

And why are you purchasing Notebook memory? Isn't this a desktop you want to build?

thanks guys your opinions really matter. Well as for power i will upgrade to 650W since the 720W may stretch my budget. Hope 650W is suffecient.

As for the NX8600gt graphics card i had a go on ebay and think i can afford it qnd hope to get cheap on an auction...therefore i will be getting that one.

Finally thanks for spotting the memory mistake i made i was gona rush and buy it and get disappointed when i get home. Do you think with these specs i can run FSX smoothly..FS9 i am 100% confident. I am looking to get between 2GB and 4GB memory

Thanks guys.

PS do you guys suggest i should get Vista or should i stick to XP for now.

2 GB DDR2 should suffice.

As for Vista vs. XP, it really depends which DirectX you prefer (9 or 10). If you prefer stunning graphics over frame rate, use Windows Vista as DX10 is enabled. If frame rate is first priority, however, use Windows XP. There are several rumors around the web claiming slower frame rates via Windows Vista.

If you don't plan on buying new peripherals (printer...etc), then I would stay with XP for now.

I have Vista Ultimate, and I'm still not 75% happy and comortable with it.

I agree with RD. Vista is still in a premature state now. I wouldn't rush to get a copy of Vista nowadays

620 or 750W should suffice. I am currently running a Core2 Quad Q6600 coupled with an 8800 Ultra with 2GB RAM @ 800MHz and 2HD's (500GB and 320GB) with 620W. No problems.

Agree with viche... before upgrading my system, I noticed increased lag in Vista over XP when running Call of Duty2. But with DX10 support you SHOULD go for an 8600 or 8800 series GPU. If you don't prefer DX10 or you want to stick to older DX9 games, then a 7-series should be fine.

Viche gives good advice. My 8600GTS 675MHZ runs FSX very well with good frame rates and pretty nice graphics.

michael_horatio, that is an excellent shot of FSX.

Would you mind posting up your system specs please.
