Would I be able to upgrade Windows Vista 32-bit to 64-bit without losing my programs or current OS configurations?
What would I need to upgrade to 64-bit? Because I have 2GB of RAM, but apparently my FSX needs MORE RAM than what I have (2GB) because I fired up a PMDG 747-400 for FSX at EHAM Schiphol Amsterdam (build storms weather and full graphics to test my new 8800 Ultra  ), but after 10 minutes of slow loading the outside... FSX crashed with the error that I have run out of available memory and need to restart FSX. my RAM was fully utilized, so I need more RAM (preferably 6GB... but 32-bit supports only 4.. subtract all that memory steals for its address so 3.4GB MAX for a 32-bit OS  )
So I need a seamless transition to Windows Vista x64.. Would that be possible? I don't care about costs. I'm rich enough. (My dad has nothing to do with this..)

I am not rich enough (and I have no idea how rich my dad is).
Just in case you wonder why I am so hard on you, it is because I keep getting the impression that you want to convince your dad to spend more money.
Here is a statement from your previous post:
That's what I've been trying to convince my dad with to buy a very good (but expensive) g-card... So I dont have to replace it withing the next 2-3 years. I should have said this earlier...) me and my dad share the bill... Like I might pay, say... $150 of the full price (I paid all for the H/D)... and my dad pays the rest.
Some time ago when we discussed this issue, you stated that your father rewarded you because you took a course during you summer break. When I was your age, I had a summer job. My parents did not reward me for working during my summer breaks. I suspect that I spent more hours at my summer job than you did in the classroom. To the best of my memory, I had summer jobs throughout High School and College.
I highly respect your enthusiasm in flight simulator. However, I sense that more than half of your posts pertain to you and your Dad (whatever the ratio is) spending money on expensive equipment.
As stated in my signature at the age of 61, I am enrolled in a Ground School. As part of my homework assignment, I often practice what I have learned on my current hardware setup. I don't see any need to purchase a bigger or faster computer to make me a better pilot.

| Hey 09', I think your question would be better answered by the Flight Simulator development team. I find it hard to believe that more than 2gig of RAM should be necessary. I see hotrods come into my shop with a dizzying array of high performance parts.....all of which are fighting each other for supremacy under the hood. You must take a systems approach and find the right "tune" for your machine. A very good friend of mine runs a small block chevy in his street machine that doesnt have very much compression, but we manage to remain undefeated and often beat out big block rods and turbo charged large displacement V8's because our components are well matched and tuned properly. So, hook up with the MS guys and get their professional opinion as to what it takes to run FS properly. |

You know what? That was a long time ago, Skip... Yes, me and my dad did share the cost of a 500GB Hard drive... alright. But hey, I worked for it. 500 pages of Geometry during the summer was pretty intense for me (since I never did that much in such a short time period before), and it was important for my educational career.. so there was a reward in it.. and as he promised.. it was in fact, my 8800 Ultra, promised about over a year ago.
But now.. I make my own dough. I sell Dutch goods only available in Holland to the people here in Egypt.
Ok, enough about money here. Can we get back to the topic, please?
Yes, my FSX did crash due to lack of RAM. But that was because I started the PMDG 747 at Shiphol Intl' Airport at the highest possible settings. And I am ready to purchase myself another 2 - 4 GBs. But it seems a 32-bit OS cannot 'read' more than 4GB of physical memory. I know its a lot, but they said system addresses and components and stuff reduce that capacity down to like 3.4GB of RAM. Quite a lot! But I am aiming for 6GB.
And GS, yeah, I've been trying to work that out. I installed the FSX SP1, and turned a few settings down. I just want to go the safe way, you know what I mean? I will keep tuning and see how more RAM affects the game
I just find it intruding how my first 'real' attempted flight in FSX crashes because of not enough memory!

P.S. Another word for you Skipper. I'm not the kind of person to be sitting on my lazy a$$ making my dad pay for my paradise.. seriously.
Internet marketing is today's most powerful revenue-generating job without having to spend a HUGE amount on overheads.
Good point about the pilot thing. And TBH, I agree. However, a bigger and faster computer will allow you to make better visual approaches, as a lagging system seriously hinders the flight experience. And I'm the kind of person, let's say, that admires beautiful pictures
(I like my wallpapers of Tahiti and of beautiful sandy beaches!) |

Ok...back on topic. Why would you want to upgrade to Vista x64? Most programs today don't support the 64-bit OS. You will find yourself looking for 64-bit alternatives. You might face compatibility issues as well:

Get a different motherboard, that is compatible, that supports more RAM. That's all I did for this "blue haired" rig.

Its not my mobo... both my mobo and processor support 64-bit processing. I got 4 RAM slots, meaning I can theoretically have up to 8 - 16GB. It's just that I wanted RAM to spare, because what's *beep* me is that I keep freezing FSX due to "not enough memory" and RAM being utilized at dangerously high levels.
Hell, I bought my new computer to BLAST at the levels of visual details in my games! All my games run smoooth at full settings. Except for FSX. And RAM seems to be the problem here

| Have you contacted Microsoft Development yet and asked them about it? Find out what specs they used when they made the sneak peak videos of FSX. I still dont see the need for more than 2 gig of RAM and I am betting there is something else going on. |

Is FSX all you are running when it gives you that message?
Do you maybe have some high detail windows gadgets going in the backround?
Maybe some CPU monitors?
