It’s my pleasure to announce that a select number of very talented individuals and I have been working on a new virtual airline project centered around an airline which has since disappeared into the history books.
The purpose of this announcement is two-fold: The announcement of the subject airline as well as a position availability announcement for only two (2) positions on the development team. Read on!
Virtual Airline Project Announcement
---------------------------------------------------------
Mid-November, I posted an announcement on the various flightsim boards indicating the transfer of ownership of MetroAir Virtual (VATSIM: http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=24927) and the team-building phase of this new virtual airline project. I am today proud to report that the web design is largely complete, and the backend coding of the project is more than halfway complete as well. It is with equal pleasure and excitement that I announce the subject airline for this project is none other than the flashy, historical Braniff International Airways – the airline which changed the way we viewed air travel (and spent a fortune doing so, in the process). Here are some images to help jog your memories of this flashy, legacy carrier:

As many are aware, Braniff International was once the flashiest, most widely-recognized airlines (reaching tenth-largest in the world at one point) and operated a various fleet of equipment between 1927 and 1992. For those interested, Braniff flew the following aircraft between 1927 and 1992: Boeing 727, Douglas DC-3, Convair R 340, Douglas DC-8 (various), Boeing 707 (various), Boeing 747-100, 747-200, 747SP, BAC 111, Lockheed Electra 188, Douglas DC-4, Douglas DC-6, Boeing 720, C-47, DC-7, Concorde, Convair R 440, Convair R 240, Lockheed Constellation, Douglas DC-9, Airbus A320, Boeing 737-200, Stinson Detroiter, Douglas DC-2, Travel-Air 2000, Lockheed Vega, Lockheed Electra 10, and the Saab 340.
To speak briefly about the project, we plan to eventually represent the entire legacy of Braniff in it’s various phases from 1927 to 1992 using (7) seven periods of time each reflecting the specific periods of change experienced in Braniff between these years, complete with aircraft, schedules and as much realism as we can pack into a legacy operation. Realism and fun are to be the key. Given the enormity of the project, each of these time periods will be released over time with the virtual airline launching on the period comprising of 1966 to 1977. Hey, where else can you realistically fly a domestic 727 one day and a Concorde the next – and in style?
Position Availabilities (2) Announcement
---------------------------------------------------------
As is the case with many projects, skills and participation vary greatly amongst the development team and new individuals are constantly recruited to fulfill the various demands in position and responsibility required. The purpose of this announcement is twofold; to announce the project’s focus and to solicit two more individuals to bring our development of four individuals to six. We already have a dedicated team consisting of a President, Chief Technology Officer, Fleet Operations Director, and Director of Flight Scheduling. The below positions (when filled) will complete the team necessary to facilitate the launch of this virtual airline.
Listed below are the basic position descriptions for the two positions we are seeking to fill. Interested applicants should take care to express via email a sincere and well thought-out email expressing interest in one of the positions below to markrmccoy@gmail.com. First impressions are lasting impressions, so take the time to prepare a good email expressing your interest and why you feel that you would be best for the position.
- Human Resources & Content Generalist -- This person will be a Director-level position tasked with the ongoing collaboration with Developers in the day to day development of Braniff. This person will be the forefront of Braniff's "people side" (the face of the airline) and will assist with the establishment and enforcement of policies, procedures, and overall content (with the support of other management).
- Jack of all Trades -- This isn't the official title, just the position. This person will be a Staff-level position tasked with the ongoing collaboration with Developers in the day to day development of Braniff virtual. This individual will likely be an energetic individual, assisting anyone as needed -- most specifically Jon Thurston with the research of Braniff historical information.

OMG! I'm Drooling over this one! It's been a long time dream of mine to collaborate with someone for a period piece VA (1930's 1940's), servicing the west coast, Alaska, Hawaii and points beyond.
Mr. McCoy, you're onto something! I wish you the very best of luck in your endeavor! I wish I could throw in with you at any level. I wish I could throw in with a lot of efforts taking place right now. But I cannot.
