I am embarking on my third project, the first one, (I posted a screenhot in another post) was to see if I could make anything that resembeled an airplane. The second looked like an Archer, and I experimented with different animations. Now, my third which I hope to make good enough for a release is an actual airplane the Van's Aircraft RV-10.
I ran into my first issue right off. Now I am using background images since its a real plane. But for some reason, the "left," "top," and "front" viewpoints arn't acting right, like if I move the calibration box to the left in the top view, it would stay the same in the front view instead of going to the left, but the side view would move forward. It was really weird, and after about an hour of frustration, I just changed the background. Like, for "front" viewpoint, I have the side background image. This way, everything moves the right way.
I aim this question at Hark, seeing how he's *beep* good at this stuff, will this work?
I'll have to have a look and play a bit to see if I can help at all. I build stuff from scratch and don't use background images or 3-views. Just sounds like a Graphic User Interface problem, Let me play a bit and get back on here if I can come up with any concrete suggestions.
Hiya...sorry, I just got on here to say that I haven't made time yet to play with the viewports and background images. I was re-reading your post though, and I'm a bit confounded. (Nothing new there!) As far as I can tell, if you move a box back and forth in the side view, then you should NOT see it move in the front view. In that view any movement would be imperceptible, as the object is presented as the front of the object...in 'Front' view there will be no movement, it can only appear to get closer to you in the 'perspective' view, as only this view allows for any depth perception whatsoever. So as far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with the way an object moves or presents itself in the front viewport. I hope this makes sense, and I hope I haven't mis-interpreted your dilemma. I'll take a shot in max and post up what I mean....back soon. Feel free to redefine your problem if I am mistaken.
The thing is that, when I moved the box left and right in the side view, the box in the front view would go up and down. It was really, and still is, really puzzling.
Hmmm...you also have to be careful of what you are grabbing onto with the 'move' tool - it will pick up on which of the three axis lines it happens to be on when you click-to-drag, and you have to watch which axis is selected in the box at the top of the screen, too. It can get goofy pretty quick. Just keep at it and be determined, and don't be afraid to start over and do some tests, work out the bugs and things that puzzle you. (Stubborn-ness helps me, I'm going to make it work or beat it to bits! )
