Got Photoshop6. How in the world do you import another bitmap or what-have-you, as a layer? Can you? I can't find where to import a layer, or just import an image for that matter. I need to open my wing template map (A gray, wireframe image mapped to the wing model) in Photoshop, then import the wing paintjob and place it on the template just right, scaleable and all. Also, how in the heck do I just have the wing image come in, with the white background transparent, so I can place the wing on the template precisely? I have a neat trick I found in Photoshop to trade for the answers.
If I need to define my dilemma with screenshots, I can.

I just create a new "frame" or palette, and make it a transparency. Then "move" what I need over to it, and title and save it.
Or, instead importing it, just go to file, open new, spend 10 minutes trying to find where it is, and open it. Then rename it, save as PSD, and wa-la, you have a new layer. Just make sure you name each layer differently. Then you can open it, and have all your bitmap layers, showing, but not flattened.
When you flatten it, you just collapsed all the layers to one. So make sure you keep a back up of all your original bitmaps. When that is done, change it from PSD to Bmp.
Sorry, but I do know what I am doing, I just can't put into words what I want to parlay.
Cool, thanks RD. I'll have another go at it and get back on here all confounded probably. Probably easy but ...ya know...I'm new at this, I'm used to 'Paint' and that's about it. My brain's getting all full again....if you hear that *POP* sound, you know what happened.
Hey! That works perfectly! I didn't know you could do that! (Opening two maps and 'moving' over from one to another.) Cooooool! And with the transparency dialed down you can see to place it just so and then dial up to 100%. Sweet.
'Kay...I promised a tip from me. Let me prepare a few shots for demonstration and get it on here tomorrow. Rats...it's probably old hat to RD and G.S., etc. Later...

There probably ain't too many tips out there for any of the Adobe Photoshops ( 6.0.1; CS2; CS3 ) I don't know about. Plus all the different Plugins, filters and such.
Since you have the 6.0, there is an update for it, to 6.0.1. Adds a couple more tools and filters, and paths. I can't find it on the Adobe.com site. But it is out there somewhere. Came out about 3 years ago.
Otherwise, I'm glad you like it, and got it. It is an awesome little tool/utility that I use alot.
Hiya. O.k., here's my tip. Actually I don't really think it's much of a tip, I just discovered it though, so it's still way cool to me.
I have this wing texture that ended up being lighter than I wanted, compared to the other wing textures, but I didn't want to add a 'colour fill' layer that would dilute the detail while deepening colour. So I tried 'Image/Apply image' from the top toolbar and you then select how transparent you want your added image. It must double up the strength of my lighter image at 100% because it made the wing really nice looking and the detail was retained. The lightest first shot is my unsatisfactory light wing texture, then a shot with 'Apply image' used at 44%, then one at 100%. Just one mouse click (okay, two) to beef up a weak image. I just thought it was cool because it's rare you accidentally find a specific fix for a problem so quickly and easily.
