I don't usually rave over a freeware product, there are some good one's and equally there are some bad.......... But this particular one had me drooling Drool

I am not sure how many of you have seen this creep on the scene this past few days, and if you enjoy difficult approaches and stunning scenery, then get this now.....

It's Kai Tak Airport, Hong Kong, (VHHX). It comes in five parts, and is a lot to install, but trust me when I say, this package is absolutly stunning.

Should you decide to download it, and need advice or help, I have completed a successful install, and it works absolutly great.

I repeat, It's FREE. And available from Avsim.

Here are the links to all 5 parts in order of download:

Ive done the install exactly the way it told me to ,but it looks like theres nothing there, no runways no buildings and only the airport. Checked the "known problems" section and couldnt find anything relative.

Any ideas/help would be great!

P.S no runways appeard on the gps either!

Is this for FSX, FS2004, or perhaps both?

Are you sure you placed everything in the correct locations, how about the Afcad2 files, sounds like these are missplaced.

@Denholm........ This is for FS9 FS2004 only.

OK........ This is for those that have not read the PDF that came with part one...... Read and inwardly digest:

When you are ready to download 9Dragons you will find it has been divided into 5 1. parts and labeled accordingly:
Part1of5 Part2of5 Part3of5 Part4of5 Part5of5
Create a temporary folder on your hard drive and download all five parts into the 2. same work folder. You will now see 5 zipped files named:
9dragon1.zip 9dragon2.zip 9dragon3.zip 9dragon4.zip 9dragon5.zip
Unzip all the files into the same work folder here or to another folder if that is easier – just keep them all together for ease of install. You may encounter a few files over-writing themselves as these are part of some website’s requirement files. But do not worry, just say yes. The 9D program files will not be overwritten.
You will now see the following 18 folders:3.
1 9Dragons Pilots Guide (which you are currently reading)
2 9Dragons
3 9Dragons - Autogen
4 9Dragons - Landclass
5 9Dragons - AFCADS
6 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Effects folder
7 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Effects-texture folder
8 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-asia-scenery folder
9 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-asia-texture folder
10 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-Generic-scenery folder
11 9Dragons - Copy these files to your main FS9 Texture folder
12 9Dragons - Copy this file to your FS9 Scenery-Vehicles-scenery folder
13 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder
14 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder
15 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder
16 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder
17 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder
18 9Dragons - Extra Goodies Folder

As you might have guessed, I have named the folders to help tell you what I want you to do with either the entire folder or what to do with the files inside that folder. (please don’t jump ahead and just drop them in. That is only half the puzzle for a proper installation).
Follow along as we start with folder #2 and work our way down to #17.
2 9Dragons
First, delete the “2” in the folder name so the folder is named just ‘9Dragons’. The numbers were only placed there so when you unzipped the order would be correct for you to follow these install instructions.
This is your main 9Dragons folder. Copy the entire folder over to your FS9/Addon Scenery folder. Do not activate yet.
3 9Dragons – Autogen
Again, delete the “3” so the folder is named just ‘9Dragons - Autogen’
This is custom autogen for the entire Hong Kong area. Move the entire folder to FS9/Addon Scenery folder. Do not activate yet.
4 9Dragons – Landclass
Once again (and the last one), delete the “4” so the folder is named just ‘9Dragons – Landclass’
This is some custom landclass files required for certain areas. Move the entire folder to your FS9/Addon Scenery folder.
Do not activate yet.
5 9Dragons – AFCADS
If your look in this folder you will see four AFCADS. Four? Why so many? Well, I have created different AFCADS for the simmer to choose based on what you might prefer. Most simmers want to practice the IGS RWY13 approach but if you use real-world weather a lot or don’t manually adjust your weather speed and direction just right you will be instructed to use RWY31.
So I have created an AFCAD that closes RWY31 for landing and takeoff. Now you can practice all you want and set whatever weather situations you desire with no effect on runway selection. So a quick look at the four types:

AF2_9D_VHHX.bgl
This would be considered a standard type AFCAD. Both RWY13 and 31 are open. Weather and ATC will determine your arrivals and departure procedures.
AF2_9D_VHHX_31closed.bgl
RWY31 is closed. All takeoffs and landings will use the IGS “Checkerboard” Approach landing onto RWY13. This one has already been placed in the scenery folder as your first AFCAD to start with.
AF2_9D_VHHX_31Closed_Random.bgl
RWY31 is still closed but I have also made the parking random. By this I mean if you use standard type AFCADS you may notice the parking is in numerical order, Gate 1, Gate 2, Gate 3, etc. Your AI aircraft will also be placed in this numerical order as well. This is very nice and orderly but can also make certain areas of an airport congested and other areas vacant of any aircraft. Could also have an impact on your FPS in certain views and areas.
So I have added this type AFCAD to mix things up a little. Give it try. It will have less impact as you fill up Kai Tak with a higher % of AI aircraft.
AF2_9D_VHHX_Random.bgl
Just like the standard AFCAD. Both Rwy13 and 31 are open. But this time I have also randomized the parking. Again, just a little added variety.
I did not create an AFCAD to close RWY13 as most people want to fly this approach in the first place. Just use the one I have already placed for you for your first flight. Further reading will explain why. But down the road give each one a go for a little change of pace. So keep the files somewhere on your harddisk where you can find them. I put the entire AFCADs folder right in my FS9/Addon Scenery/9Dragons folder for safe keeping and easy to locate.
26
Installing files from folders #6 through #16
These folders have been named telling you where to place the files inside them. Open each folder, copy or move the files to their proper folder by using the folder name as your guide. I have placed a reminder text file in folders where you should rename original FS9 files BEFORE you move the 9D files over to avoid any conflicts.
So for example, folder #8 says:
8 9Dragons - Copy these files to your FS9 Scenery-asia-scenery folder
So you would copy the files in this folder and place them in the path FS9/Scenery/asia/scenery folder (I can’t use slashes ‘/’ in folder names so I use the dash ‘-‘ in its place).
So go ahead and do this now for folders 6 through 16. Take your time as you can easily drop the files into the wrong folder.
Done For Installing… now let’s get those files active!
Fire-up FS9 and click on Settings, and then Scenery Library.A.
Click on Add Area.B.
Find the ‘9Dragons – Autogen’ folder and select that. We want to activate this first. C. This will move it down on priority as we activate the remaining two 9D folders.
Then select and activate ‘9Dragons – Lanclass’D.
And last select and activate ‘9Dragons’.E.
Then go to the Hong Kong Photo scenery and click on the box to DE-ACTIVATE this F. (We have our own for you).
In your FS9 Settings window go to Realism and select ‘Ignore crashes and damage’. G. We did not model with crash detection in mind. If you do not turn it off you will crash on short final.

As said before, I did it exactly the way I was told. I put the afcad in fs9/scenery/world scenery.

I have done the install twice! Takes ages!

I have activated the scenery, restarted fs9 and tried changing my display settings, but still had no joy.

You clearly still are not reading what is written,,,,,,,,,, I said Afcad2 NOT Afcad. My bet is, this is where you have gone wrong..............

Now....... Go and read the PDF, any Afcad2 file goes in Addon Scenery/Scenery. Please read carefully what is written Shocked

Ok. I have read the pdf another three times! I have opened the folder with the afcads. You choose one of them. AF2_9D_VHHX_31Closed is what I have chosen and put it in fs9/addon scenery/scenery.I couldnt find AFCAD2.

I have re-copied all the files to the relative folders and activated them, restarted fs9.

Please be patient with me!!

AF2_9D_VHHX_31Closed is the Afcad2........ and it is in the right folder.

9Dragons,.... 9Dragons_Landclass....... & 9Dragons-Autogen should all be in you Addon Scenery folder, all three should be activated within the Scenery Library, BUT NOT UNTIL EVERYTHING IS IN IT'S RESPECTIVE LOCATION.

Assuming you have downloaded all 5 Zips, and placed everything as per the instructions, it must work.

Part two is the most comprehensive of them all, let your mouse hover over each folder, and a box will appear with the correct locations for most of them, it won't show the path for the three 9Dragons Addon Scenery folders, but it does for all others.

Something is most definatly in the wrong place.

If you bear with me, I will compile a list of all folders and their required locations. I will endeavour to make it more obvious than the PDF.

Ok, this is for everyone that wants to install the Kai Tak Airport.

I have tried to simplify the installation instructions given inside the PDF which is supplied with this product.

So long as you adhere to each section to the letter, it cannot fail to install correctly.

Here we go:

I will ignore Part 1 for this exercise, as it contains information only. Folders I will refer to as they would be when unzipped, ie. Folder 2 = Dragons 2

Dragons 2.

First step:

Inside this folder you will see another 11 folders, we will deal with the first three first.

2 9 Dragons, ... 3 9 Dragons - Autogen ... 5 9 Dragons - Landclass, ... remove the first number ie. 2 9 Dragons should now read 9 Dragons, do the same with the other two.

Copy and paste these 3 folders into the Addon Scenery folder, (Do not activate yet).

----------------------------------------

4 9 Dragons folder – AFCADS. Select ONE of the AF2’s of your choice from these four, do not use all four. This file goes into Addon Scenery/Scenery.

6 9 Dragons: Copy and Paste all files inside this folder into your main FS9 Effects folder.

7 9 Dragons: Copy and Paste all files inside this folder into your main FS9 Effects/Texture folder. This is located inside the Effects Folder.

8 9 Dragons: Copy and Paste all files inside this folder into your main FS9 Scenery-asia-scenery folder.

9 9 Dragons: Copy and Paste all files inside this folder into your main FS9 Scenery-asia-texture folder.

10 9 Dragons: Copy and Paste all files inside this folder into your main FS9 Scenery-Generic-scenery folder.

11 9 Dragons: Copy and Paste all files inside this folder into your main FS9 Texture folder.

12 9 Dragons: Copy and Paste all files inside this folder into your main FS9 Scenery-Vehicles-scenery folder.

Dragons 3

13 9 Dragons & 14 9 Dragons: Both the contents of these two folder should be Copied and Pasted into your main FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder.

Dragons 4

15 9 Dragons & 16 9 Dragons: Exactly the same procedure as above, Copy and Paste into your main FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder.

Dragons 5

17 9 Dragons: Again, exactly the same as above. FS9 Scenery-World-texture folder.

18 9 Dragons: I will not deal with these files just yet, as they are only enhancements.

Done For Installing… now let’s get those files active!

A. Fire-up FS9 and click on Settings, and then Scenery Library.

B. Click on Add Area.

C. Find the ‘9Dragons – Autogen’ folder and select that. We want to activate this first. This will move it down on priority as we activate the remaining two 9D folders.

D. Then select and activate ‘9Dragons – Lanclass’

E. And last select and activate ‘9Dragons’.

F. Then go to the Hong Kong Photo scenery and click on the box to DE-ACTIVATE this (We have our own for you).

G. In your FS9 Settings window go to Realism and select ‘Ignore crashes and damage’. We did not model with crash detection in mind. If you do not turn it off you will crash on short final.

Now close FS9, re-start, and select Kai Tak Old.

I would suggest you copy/paste this and print it off........ that way you can set everything up without going in and out of FS9 to refer.
