| Whenever you are referring to a specific aircraft, we need to know exactly which one you are talking about. Things such as, the exact download file name (********.zip) and where you got it from. Also, we will need to know what is presently in that airplanes folder in the FSX/simobjects folder.

More than likely, you also deleted other .bmp's that has to go with the a/c.
Otherwise, as GS said. Get it again, and let us know.
Then maybe we can help you in your attempt better.

You kinda got ahead of us there partner. Reinstall the aircraft, when I get back from work today I will post up about setting up another texture/variant so that it shows up for you properly. Now, reinstall the aircraft so that it appears correctly. Then we will move on.
1/14 edit: Hang with me, should have this little tutorial up tomorrow. Doin' it up with pictures.

The pictures below are numbered to the text sections.
One: Here we have a picture of the simobjects/airplanes folder for the Bombardier_CRJ_700. Take note of the fact there must be several folders in place. Namely a model, a panel, a sound and at least one texture folder. Along with the folders there must be an air file and a cfg file. The model may have more than one texture file (after all this is what we are trying to create) and in some cases may have alternate panel and model files (that is for another time).
Two: In this picture you will see that I have created a copy of one of the texture folders. When adding a texture that you have downloaded, the name will of course be different.
Three: In this shot you will note that I have changed the name of the copied texture folder. The name format must be "Texture.(name of texture)". For the purpose of this little tutuorial I have named the texture "example".
Four: Here, we are looking at the aircraft.cfg (which can be opened with any decent text editor). The particular section we are focusing on are the "fltsim" sections near the top of the cfg. When you download a new texture it will often supply a new cfg or cfg section to be copy/pasted into place. Very important note, these sections must maintain a set order starting with 0. [fltsim.0], [fltsim.1], [fltsim.2], etc.
Five: Since I have copied one of the textures, I am also going to copy one of the fltsim sections to use as a base for my variation.
Six: Now I have my new fltsim section appropriately numbered to the next number in sequence. But, this will not be good enough for my new variation to appear. For reference, be aware that in the fltsim section under the lines for model, panel, sound and texture, if there is nothing entered then the cfg will use the associated folders which are not specialized....that is to say, the default associations within the folder. So, if there is no entry for texture= , then the folder labeled "Texture" will be called up. To correct this for our demonstration, we will need to enter the name of the texture folder we want to appear when we call up our new variation.
Seven: In this shot, we have entered "example" on the texture= line, but we are not done yet. That will only make sure that our new texture shows up. In order for it to be listed as a selectable variation we need to properly label the line for "ui_variation". In this case our new variation is called "example" and we have also edited the "title" line as well to reflect our new variation for selection in the aircraft selection menu of FSX.
Eight and Nine: Looking at the aircraft selection menu we can see that there is indeed a new variation for the CRJ that is labeled "example".
