| There is a free terrain file for an area I frequently fly in but it is for FS9. Is it possible to use it in FSX? |

As far as I am aware, fs9 won't work in FSX, what area are you refering too, maybe there is already one for FSX.
Have you done a search ?

How about a file name, and where you got it. If it's a texture thing only, then some can be used, and others used if you do some tweaking.

| Best thing to do is to join the FreeFlow forums and ask the authors what will or wont work with regards to FSX. |
