Hi, I had FSX installed on my system but I wanted to take it off to put FS9 back on. Now that I have deleted FSX(though it still shows up in control panel installed programs file) FS9 will not install and neither will FSX. When I go to make sure FSX is really uninstalled, it tells me:

This Update package cannot be opened. Verify that the update package exists, and that you have access to it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows Installer update package. C:\Windows/Installer/3f46d.msi

When I go to install FS9, it get's 98% done and tells me cannot located world.cab file.

When I go to install FSX it tells me during the installer:

This Update package cannot be opened. Verify that the update package exists, and that you have access to it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows Installer update package. F:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.msi

What the heck does all this mean and how can I fix it!!!

To me it sounds like you did just delete the folder with the program and not uninstalled it the correct way using the program's own uninstaller?

If so, you still have fragments of the program left, for example in your 'Application Data' folder, your 'Documents' and your 'Registry Database'. You need to clean all this up first, and then try to do the install again. Maybe it'll help, maybe not.

And the FS9 install error has nothing to do with FSX. It might be because your disc is scratched or something. Clean it and try again.

If it still does not work, then you might try to request a new set of discs via the support at Microsoft.

thanks for the info. I have gone through and deleted everything I could possibly find and I have tried to install FS9 again. it still won't work. Here is the message I get when it messes up.

microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 has encountered a Disk error while writing to the C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftGames\Flight Simulator9\scenery\world.cab. Make sure your hard disk is not full, and the file is not in use

The disc is barely scratched!!! It's almost in perfect condition I never had a problem though until FSX started screwing up.

Try doing a system restore. Roll back your computer to the day you removed the folder. Then uninstall the program(s) the proper way.

Some time ago I removed FS9 and then tried to reinstall it and got similar problems like you describe .To clean FS9 out of my computer completely I first removed it in the ADD & REMOVE in the control panel ,then carried out a search and deleted everything that showed ,went into Programs folder and deleted it in there and finally went into the registry and deleted it there .Only after all of this would it reinstall

I've got FS9 working now. I used the BAD THING put the game on the computer. The only problem now is that to move something like scenery or aircraft into their FS9 folders, it take almost an hour when it should be instant!!

You have a PM. RD
