Ok as noone seems to have helped out Insured Disaster with his laptop problem, I hope I have better luck...this info will anyway help a lot of budding enthusiasts and existing ones who want to experience FS( as it is meant to be.
Can all of you please provide inputs in terms of Best Computer Config for FS9 in terms of Display Settings, Memory, HD, Processer Speed, Sound Settings, Video Adapters and anything else that is important to run FS9 well with the highest realism settings and best frame rates..?

Maybe all of us can simply describe our best settings and let others take a cue from there?
Mine is:
Monitor: 17"+
HDD: 80 GB @ 7200 RPM
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
Display Card - Dont know...major problem with me..need help as well!
512 MB DDR RAM
Wht else is important?
In case these answers are in any other forum, pls excuse this post and guide me!!
Thanks a ton!

Have you spoken with Insured Disaster and know that he hasnt received help or figured out what he needed to know? Question

Also, system settings has been hashed out several times in the forums. Just goto forums, click the search button at the top of the page, input your key words and hit enter. Idea

Lastly, it will matter little what anybody's settings are unless they have the exact same machine/components. People like to set up for different aspects of FS also, sometimes they want more aircraft performance, sometimes they want more scenery detail. To have it all of course, you will need the latest processors, highest level of RAM, baddest video card available/with the latest drivers and a nice large monitor with killer resolution and refresh rate capability.

So, beyond that, unless there is a specific problem we are attempting to troubleshoot, personal settings are pretty much a moot point.

[quote="groundsquirrel"]Have you spoken with Insured Disaster and know that he hasnt received help or figured out what he needed to know? Question

I really dont know about the carmarderie that exists around here...just that neither I , and I am sure nor most others , see any reply to Insured's question...maybe people get answers in a lot of different ways over here-thru pm's or mails, but sometimes that defeats the idea of a 'forum' where everyone discusses for others to see and learn/comment.

As far as the searching the topic goes, this is a huge site where its easy to lose ur way. So as Rhthmo once suggested, one should ideally stick to the relevant forums...(this one is about optimal configurations btw) and I am also sure that there a lot of us who come in with questions like these. I didn't really ask for individual settings, but for " the optimal configuration that will run FS9 at its best"...meaning, with highest realism settings/frame rates and such.

To make it sound even simpler, its like saying one ideally needs a minimum of 64 MB of RAM to effortlessly run around Windows XP, but 256MB's will bring out the true potential of the program.

Similarly, I am positive that some experienced simmers can provide a bit more information than "latest processors, highest level of RAM, baddest video card available/with the latest drivers and a nice large monitor with killer resolution and refresh rate capability". Rolling Eyes That sounds more like a kid trying to explain his latest machine to his classmates.

This question is meant for them.

Thanks.

maybe I misunderstood, but the question was optimal configuration. In my opinion optimal will nearly always mean the best of everything. If you meant minimal configuration for allowing full settings that would indeed demand a much more precise specification. So I must leave it here as I am not a computer technician and only understand what my own clunker will allow, which is far from the full settings I desire.

Being that I use a desktop I dont think I am much use to Insured Disaster's question. Yes, we love the community of Surclaro and have multiplayered on occasion. A lot of us have hectic schedules and so contact is kinda erratic. But we look for each other through the forums, private messages etc.

We love to have new members whenever possible. We love to help whenever possible, but please dont confuse my enthusiasm for obsession. Neither I nor anybody else here owes anything but our honest opinion and experiences. Only one person makes the rules at Surclaro.com, and he is Gbesoain.

So have a good time, enjoy Surclaro.com, we appreciate all you have to offer to the community. I have enjoyed your many posts so far.

Left flyer...

I have posted on other topics here regarding FS specs and requirements but wouldn't you know it...I can't find the specific one. So here goes...

FS requires a very fast processor. Your system specs seem to be the upper norm with the exception of ram. Get more. And the fastest type possible for your mobo. 1G of ram is more than plenty to get FS to run with all settings maxxed with your processor. Video card? 128 is good enough. Unless your monitor supports resolutions higher than 1024x768 then 128 is plenty. The video card is not that important for FS, or it's ram. It just draws quicker if you have more memory/core speed, but the bottom line is, all that information is fed to it by your processor and bus. Oh, what is your bus speed anyways?? Do you know? It would help max out your fps if you can push your bus speeds up higher than 800mhz.

You don't want your PC accessing your HDD too much as it slows things down dramatically. Let it all stay in ram, so HDD is not a big deal. A good sound card helps as well as it reduces the bottleneck on the bus speeds. Other than that, you are set mate! So...upgrade your ram, find out your bus speed and vid info and we'll take it from there...

As much I would like to edit my last post, it still wouldn't allow me to get out of this embarrasing situation...thank you groundsquirrel and my apologies for being rude.. Embarassed

Thanks exxman..I think I will increase my RAM and go for a new card all together. Seems ATI is everyone's favorite! erm, one question, how did you get that aircraft under the bridge? Just that it looks too realistic. I sincerely hope its a morphed image!

Check out ATI and Nvidia forums for the latest scoops on vid cards. And make sure you get the right type and make of ram for your system as it can be a real pain in the behind if you get the wrong type of ram. Take the old chip with you to be sure.

I hope my pic is morphed...
