I know this question and this post may be redundant and something you've all seen and answered a million times over, but I feel compelled to ask again as I just got a laptop and a gift card to the mall and I want to get some FSX!

I will try to counter balance the boring topic with proper manners!

The computer is an HP, it sports

- 2GB DDR2 SDRAM

- 2.0GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 (512 KB + 512 KB L2 cache)

- 160GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive

As for the sound card, well... laptops have *great* sound to begin with, but I'll be using headphones exclusively.

other info, not sure if it's pertinent.

- NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M (UMA), with up to 559MB shared video RAM

- LightScribe Super Multi 8x DVD±RW with Double Layer Support

- 15.4" WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800)

so, what do you think I could do with this and FSX (and probably FSX acceleration) ??

Anyone running anything similar to this? what visual settings are attainable? thanks for helping everyone!

btw, I am running Vista.

well to my untrained ears, it sounds great.... but if you want to check it out for yourself, check out this nifty website and see what games your rig can handle.

Huh, well thanks for showing me that great website!

As far as minimum goes, I get a passing grade. As far as recommended, I get a fail because my videocard lower than the 128MB recommended, but hey... I've been playing FS2002 all this time, I don't think I'll feel bad if I can't run FSX on "11". that would be, one better than "10".

as far as the minimums go, YES, you can run FSX on your laptop.. I do / can, and my Dell Inspirion 2200 is worse than your rig. You can fly FSX, but you will have to run bare minimums and your scenery will look like crap and baren (nothing there) and hope each flight that you can pull off 5-10 FPS.

Now if you want to go in the direction of FS2004, which there are THOUSANDS of addon planes and scenery for, then you can max everything out and have a blast at 20+ FPS.

Propwash is right. You might have to fly with all the settings at bare minimum. FSX is a graphically intensive game and I've yet to see a computer be able to run the game at absolute maximum settings.

If you aren't for the graphics just yet, I would suggest FS2004. Based off the specs you provided, I can bet this game can run beautifully on your laptop.

Indeed FS9 would run above average on this computer, but I was really hoping to get to try the Acceleration add on as well.

I downloaded the demo of FSX and I was able to run it quasi-smoothly with the airplane graphics on extremely high and the rest on medium. The results were good, but the sound was choppy and the replay was choppy as well.

If I lower the plane graphics I should be able to do it well...

Is running the demo any indication of the full version?

in one word... NO!! i believe in the demo, you only get 3 planes, maybe 20 airports, and a very small world to fly in.

in FSX Standard, you get 18 planes. 75% scenery of the Deluxe, less AI than the Deluxe, and compared to the Deluxe, and only 40 airports.

FSX Deluxe you get 24 planes, 100% Graphics, 100% Ai, over 400,000 airports worldwide to choose from

if you have any questions of FSX Standard or Deluxe.... look at the following website for MICROSOFTS comparison of what they did for each game. and be your own judge.

I understand the size differerence in the worlds, but will a smooth running demo generally indicate a smooth running full version (whichever one I choose)?

i just answered it. NO. you have 3 planes, 3 missions, very small world.

meaning your computer is not having to work as hard as if you would get FSX Deluxe. which you would now have 24 planes, over 400,000 airports, 45 highly detailed airports, 30 highly detailed CITIES.

all of these things in FSX Deluxe will hit your computer like the spaceshuttle landing on it compared to your "demo" version. The demo was meant to get your wanting the real thing.... standard or deluxe, only to find out that your computer will NOT handle the deluxe version.

Now you if do decide to go ahead and get the Standard, or Deluxe versions..... you MUST run it with ALL sliders at bare minimums, all the way to the left ( = 0 ) just to pull off ** 5 ** frames per second..... your scenery will look like crap, and the brazilian rain forest will be nothing more than a "green baren desert". NO TREES, JUST FLAT GREEN OPEN SPACE, NOTHING THERE!!

now, if you save your $70, and would go buy Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight {which has THOUSANDS of downloads available already} then you will have 20+ FPS with everything MAXED out!!!!!!

Otherwise, if you want your 20+ FPS with FSX, then stay on the Demo and do not waste your money!!!!

------------------- in lamens terms as a comparison.... your computer = your car. is it easier to drive through a 2inch deep X 2 foot long X 2 foot wide water puddle?? or through the atlantic ocean???????

the more stuff your car has to encounter, the slower and crappier it will be. same with your computer. if the CPU is running at 30% with the demo for 30 minutes and at 99% with FSX Deluxe for 30 min.... FSX Deluxe will kill your computer!!!

Now your talking my language! Thanks Captain!

I'll probably stick with FS9 then! That's the part I was confused about, if the demo works great... clearly the full version should too right???? WRONG I guess! It did leave me wanting more though!

Thanks again for your help!

Have to agree with Propwash..... Go for fs9 if you wan't any sort of quality, you should be able to almost max that out, or very near.
