PostPosted: Sat Jun 19, 2004 1:35 pm    Post subject: microsoft FFB2 joystick Reply with quote

hi

i have a problem with my FF2 joystick.

I do not have sufficient control to keep the aircraft on a particular heading, it weaves all over the place. The joystick is very free and I cannot get it to have any force at all. ( I believe Microsoft did something to reduce the FFB)

Is there any way to correct this? I would like to have the FFB working in FS9 as in the Forces test applied in the FFB Properties.

Without real control of the FFB it is almost impossible to fly the aircraft.

I have FS9 and USB2. ( I had exactly the same problem with USB1)

any help/advice much appreciated

cheers

First, please define the extent of the problem. Does this affect all aircraft, or just particular ones? Have you checked the controller settings in Fs9, and does it correctly identify your controller?

I am using the Logitech Force joystick.

hi

many thanks for your response

FFB2 is recognised by the system and I have doubled checked the settings and all seems well.

As I said I believe that Microsoft have left out one of the drivers which has reduced the force feedback effect.. I have struggled with this joystick for sometime now and am very close to abandoning it for something else.

It affects all aircraft, although some downloaded aircraft appear to work better than others. But the level of control, particularly trying to fly manuallyand keep it on a heading is poor.

I have been in contact with the Microsoft help line but they were quite frankly useless!!

I am not confident of ever getting this joystick to work properly so would value any advice/info abt alternatives

agn many thanks for the prompt response

First, since you mentioned that this stick has been a problem with either USB type, check your system, if it has VIA chipsets (and I suspect it does) download this update/patch and then get back to me with the results.

Do you have a registered copy of FSUIPC installed? If not, I highly recommend it. If you do, start FS, once you are in the plane, hit "alt", then select "modules", then select "fsuipc" and go to the joystick settings and see if you can influence the feedback there.

Also, in your controller settings, do you have a slider to set the amount of force for feedback?

hi

have now downloaded FSUIPC but have so far been unable to influence the force feedback on the joystick. When you test the joystick the force is impressive!! BUT as soon as FS9 loads all the force disappears!!!

Am I missing something?

Remember when I asked if you had checked the settings in Fs9? One of the settings categories in the upper right window under controls is for enabling force feedback, make sure you have force feedback enabled. I have all my boxes checked so I will feel the feedback for all functions. Please double check this.

Smile Hi

I am satisified that all the settings are correct

As I said before the force effect is excellent when tested in the FFB2 properties. As soon as I load an aircraft into fs2004 the force on the FFB2 disappears. When I take the aircaft off, the force re-appears!

I have been unable to resolve this problem for quite some time and have now decided to abandon the FFB2 for something else - for what I am not sure!!

If anybody has had this problem and has a solution I shall be very pleased!!

Microsoft are very poor at customer relations and have in the past abandoned Microsoft hardware users by failing to keep drivers available for changes in OS.. they could certainly learn from many other manufacturers ie Epson HP Canon who still supply updated drivers fr their products dating bsck to Win95!!

I am regretful that I could not resolve the issue for you, as stated earlier, I use the Logitech Force, It's big, it's bulky, but it's definitely rock and roll. In fact I have had to modify some of the force values in certain aircraft due to an excessive shake from ground rumble during the take off roll.
Happy flying.
