How many times have you landed at an airport and would’ve liked to have known what the approach and runway looked like? Now you can view runways, approaches and aerial views posted by pilots across the country by logging on to AirstripAmerica.com
I have included a link to my home airport just as an example.

Thanks for the additional links. I think that the two links that you provided appear to be dedicated towards "pretty pictures" versus "information". I will spend more time investigating your two links later this week.
I listed the above website because I often find myself struggling to determine what the topography looks like around an airport. It sure helps whenever we have a better feeling/picture of the buildings surrounding an airport which will help us to spot it and better determine our approach. Approach Plates and Moving Maps (GPS) are very nice. However a good picture of the surroundings is always a great help.
PS: Yesterday, I completed my first mission as a Mission Observer Trainee with the Civil Air Patrol. I spent about an hour looking out the rear right window trying to spot a parachute on the ground. Instead of using a parachute, the CAP Cadets spread out a white bedsheet below a bunch of trees. It was very difficult to spot the sheet from 1,200 feet MSL. (since Florida is mostly at sea level, our altitude was very close to 1,200 feet AGL). I brought up the subject of the Civil Air Patrol to emphasis the difficulty of spotting an object or small airport from the air.

I think the key word we are looking for Behrentzs, is "Choices".

My choice of keywords would be "WHY?"
Why does it matter if someone posts a link to another site that provides another source of information?
If your current source of info is good enough for you...keep on keepin' on and don't worry about the rest.
Thanks for the link skipperdan. |

First of all, it was not to kick someone into the mud or something. I was just wondering, in case he didn't know.
And about the 'pretty vs informative' I must say, that I've found lots of informative information in form of pictures on the following links (especially airliners.net). But sure there are more focus on prettiness than on information on the following links I provided, though you can find what you're looking for if you do your search.
Choises are good, no discussion - but, why reinvent the wheel? (get my point?)
Thanks for the link anyways, gonna be interesting to see if this project will make it.
Btw, nice to hear about your makin' it into aviation - keep us updated. (I can't wait to see if I'll get the chance one day too) |
