Whatever happened to X-plane? Does anybody still use it? Was it ever updated? How did it compare to Flight Simulator?

The reason I ask is because I still see addons for it around the various web sites but there is only one thread with a single answer here at Surclaro. Was it a dud or something?

Groundsquirrel, X-Plane does indeed still live. The Forums and the website have both moved, but it is still being updated on a regular basis. I still use a very old version, but for things other than strictly flying. If you would like, I can email you the address for the tech forum.

Thank you for replying, I was just wondering out loud as they say. Is it safe to say x-plane has been eclipsed by FS?

For my money, unless you are designing an aircraft, stick with MSFS. Much more realism in general. The flight dynamics of X-Plane are still far superior though.

Question,

I had X-Plane, but the world was always water. Do you have to download the world piece by pieceto make it work.

The planes did look great and fly great, but runways in the middle of nowhere when your going into Kennedy seemed ridiculous.

Just a thought

Hi Cobra.

I'm new here, just got registered a minute ago.

You may have had the X-Plane demo. By purchasing the full installation DVD you get all the extras like the terrains and textures. Whenever you download those big updates, the update itself is the entire application but without scenery and a few other files. You must copy a heap of gigabytes of the old scenery data that came in the DVD's installed directory, into the new X-Plane Update directory and then you can toss out the older installation. Of course, the new X-Plane update cannot execute unless the original DVD is in your drive.

Obviously, I use X-Plane. I have the latest update, 8.11. My main gripe with X-Plane is the scarcity of X-Plane8 compatible aircraft. I guess I'll have to learn how to make my own, or how to do the conversion of aircraft from X-Plane7 compatible planes.

That earlier comment is certainly correct. Flight dynamics are superb in X-Plane. And for a noob flyer like me, it's pretty tough getting started. I also use MSFS2004 wherein of course the scenery looks a bit better, not much better but a bit better.

Hope this helps.

Pedro

Funny you should ask that question.

My brother just told me about X-Plane about 3 weeks ago. We both bought the newest DVD and got it the day after my system crash and burned. Have not loaded it yet, but will be trying it out tomorrow.

I have heard the flight sim is better, but scenery is lacking in detail.

Let you know soon Very Happy

There are continually more and more things coming out for X-plane lately as I have noticed a few more places listing x plane downloads. I am still undecided though as I am recently bugging over Falcon4.0 Allied Force.

As for Rhythmosaur, he is still out there, but has not been on the net for a while.
