I am new to this board. I have FS9 I live in Mobile, AL. However I have had FS since a kid in the 6th grade. I'm only 25, so *beep* the old geezers. Ha! I understand to get the DME to work I have to set the GPS switch on the Lear 45 to GPS and of course set the GPS to KMOB airport in the NRST section as well. Ok, from what I understand I must also set Nav 2 to something as well? I would love to learn how to set the AP to Approach buttom and actually watch the plane land itself. Also, I saw that French guys tutorial on ILS/VOR, where he flew from Turkey to Greece. How do I get the ATC to give me all of the options the frechman got? All I can get is either the tower or the ground to talk to me. A lot of this other stuff is confusing to me, and I have a college degree...lol! Also, do any of you guys know of any flight servers to go flying on? If not we can fly in Hovercontrols server so long as we stay away from Hood River in anything heavy and large. You can most likely get away with a Lear. But, those darn planes are heavy and it takes 'em most of the runway just to stop. |

The "beep" thing is the profanity filter doing it's job, making us all smarter trying to figure out how to go around it. Just kidding, we try to run a relatively clean site. As for finding servers to fly on, try going over to www.chocolatesoftware.com and checking it out. They have a little program that searches out the net for all fshost servers online. There is also vatsim and a bunch of others, private and public. Also, check in to the multiplayer forum here at Surclaro and sign up, then check back every once in a while. There are also the "flightboards" available by a link from the Surclaro home page. When your eyes have stopped spinning, let us know how else we can help.
You can also host a flight from your own machine, check in the Fs9 help for more info. or search here and on the web.
I dont know about old geezer, but I am a relatively old squirrel. |

ok, so your 25
you've had fs since 6 grade
in 6th grade your about 11 years old...
25-11 is 14
2004-14 is 1990...
There was fs in 1990!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!??!
gee, i can't imagine what fs would have been like back then...
about every 2 years, fs gets better, now if you keep going back 2 years, fs gets progressively worse...gosh, i can't even imagine what the scenery or planes were like back then!!
did you run it on like Windows 90 or a mac?
hehe, sorry, had to do this, sorry if i did the math wrong.
i'm not quite 25 yet. almost that oldy moldy... |

Uh it was a Windows machine...pre-386....lol
FS was just the same as now except the graphics has gotten WAY better. The GPS thingee is lifesaver. There was no Control Tower to talk to back then, just directions. But, then they came out with one version of FS that you could create your own airports runways, etc. But, in a way I disagree that FS is getting better. Microsoft needs to build a better engine to build the game upon. Beleive it or not but, MSFS9 is built off of the same original engine as MSFS1. So, it is time for a totally new FS game for us die hard soldiers! |

"Beleive it or not but, MSFS9 is built off of the same original engine as MSFS1."
um...I just can't let this tidbit go by cause some people may actually read that and NOT know better, however I find that very hard to believe.
What are you smoking? FS9 is a 32bit based game. FS1 was an 8 bit engine. This is a totally new engine from fs98. And MOST of it is different from fs2000. So to say its the same ENGINE as fs1, sorry, but that has got to be the stupidest statement I have read in a LONG time.

| just a little reminder to all. Back to the topic please. I believe the esteemed member needed more detail on the approach settings for autopilot and info. on Nav2 in Fs9. As I am still to learn these myself, I shall let the "real" pilots fill in. After all, I am just a humble master auto mechanic, so when you guys finish breaking 'em, I will be happy to fix 'em. |
