Hi

having installed a few mostly freeware airport sceneries in FS2004 I have now a situation where if I call up 'Nearest NDB' or 'Nearest VOR' on the GPS I get two of each. While their presence on the list is annoying, what hurts most is the fact that the duplicates push other navaids off their respective lists, I might only get 4 or 5 navaids on the list.

Other than deleting the sceneries, is there anything I can run to remove duplicates?

Any ideas?

Thanks

You can open the AFCAD file for the offending airport (area) and attempt to delete the duplicate NAVAID. Make sure you select NAVAIDS from the "VIEW" menu, by default NAVAIDS are not visible when you open an AFCAD.

AFCAD2 will not allow you to delete any stock NAVAIDs, so once you find and delete the duplicate 3rd party NAVAIDS, you should be good to go.

If this is confusing, post a link to one of the scenery packages you have that's showing duplicate NAVAIDS.

Thanks Rick,

but I am not so sure of myself now.

I tried your method - it would not let me delete any of the NDBs involved. I have AFCAD Version 2.21 for FS2004 by Lee Swordy.

Some of the downloaded airports had 2 or 3 extra versions in AFCAD at the same layer, some were almost empty. I think they also warned not to touch the AFCAD in some cases. or bad things might happen.

I then deleted the scenery completely - the duplicate VORs disappeared but not the duplicate NDBs. The sceneries have obviously some bad effect but might not be to blame for all my woes.

Perhaps the duplicate NDBs were there in FS2004 from the beginning and I just didn't notice.

I have recently taken a shine to flying my Lear 45 around the Austrian / German areas and have downloaded some freeware airports including LOWI, LOWK, LOWS, EDDW, EDDS and EDDM. I also downloaded an Austrian/Italian Alps Mesh.

Since I hadn't flown the airports before I am not sure that the sceneries are to blame.

The new sceneries certainly add a lot to the experience so I think I will have to suffer the inconvenience, use the GPS less and simply enjoy the marvellous views.

Thanks anyway

Give me some direction and I'll see what I can come up with.

Either post a link to a scenery package that you know is having this problem; or if you think it's a default scenery issue, post the ICAO for that airport and I'll take a look at it and see what we can come up with.

OK Rick,

the one for Munich (EDDM) was called munichfs2004_11.zip and I found it on AVSIM.

Sitting on the runway at EDDM using the GPS:-

The VORs duplicated are DMN and DMS.

The NDBs duplicated are MNE,MSE, MSW and MNW.

Thanks

Well, short of rebuilding the whole AFCAD; I can't figure it out. AFCAD2 won't let you delete original NDBs on default AFCAD files, but it is supposed to let you delete them in modified files.

I'll let you know if I find anything.
