It only costs about $1500 which was my loose budget. I will list what I chose to buy and assemble myself, just tell me what your opinion of this setup is.
M17-7416 :: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit for System Builders - OEM, DVD (0.25 lbs)
I chose 2.5" instead of 3.5" because I know nothing about hard drives, should I go with the 3.5"?
I am building my own case, a kinda retro looking wooded/acrylic combination that will allow me to customize my cooling methods including a very large, yet slower fan that will be able to get very good airflow with equally low noise. All the while having a cool, orginal case that actually fits in with the rest of the house cause it wont be an aluminun box.
I can build cases like this just fine, I'm just doing research on dangers of building your own cases and things to avoid, like I originally wanted wood/plexiglass, but plexiglass has a tendency to build static charge.
There is a decent setup.
Notice that it is very expensive. Some key things to note: I went with triple channel 6GB RAM, because that is what i7 uses--triple channel, instead of dual channel.
64 bit operating system. Why? You are using more than 3GB of ram, so you'll need 64 bit.
Although it is costly, it will fit nicely into your 1500 dollar budget.
The case I chose is very good case in terms of ventilation.
Tropicalfish, pic was removed because of size. Please upload it again, but smaller.
