brakes, airbrakes, land at the slowest speed possible if you don't have working cables. also make the plane as light as possible (less fuel) to stop quicker.
good luck |

There is a F14 (here on this site with a high popularity) that use a brake-thing (such a a cable-arrestor)... without cables!
It also works on the flat ground-runways.
The speedbrakes brakes from 300 knots to 50 in 3 secondes.
Using Parkbrakes you stop from flying/riding on runway into 50 meters!
That is enough on a carrier. |

| Also, when you touch down, turn on the afterburners in case you overshoot the arrester cables. This way you can take off again for another attempt. |

| I have found that a very good training session for carrier operations can be found in Jetfighter IV: Fortress America. |

I have seen a current download somewhere that apparently enables a tailhook on any aircraft. In the file description it is explained that no tailhook is visible but the text banner does appear on screen claiming "tailhook extending" or whatever. I haven't tried it yet, I downloaded the file at one time and never used it. If I still have it I will post the file name and info, haven't looked yet. I just realized recently that you have to assign a key or button for "tailhook" yourself or it does'nt work. (I can now open up the folding wings on my "Alien II dropship"). I had a lot of fun getting Thunderbird 2 landed on the carrier near Miramar. |
