| I am thinking of getting a new computer soon and I want to know if anyone is able to run FSX with all their sliders maxed out with frame rates of at least 25 fps consistently. If so post your brand and model and list any upgrades you made yourself such as video card, etc. If you built it yourself what are the system specs? Can you get at lease 25 fps in dense scenery such as Seattle or L.A with extremely dense scenery, 100% traffic, 3-D clouds, etc.? |

Oh man..... something that can run FSX maxed out eh? Some of the other guys will have better answers, but here's my advice:
Be ready to spend a lot of benjamins. |

I think my latest build will do it but I can't remember how to turn on the stuff to make the frames and stuff show up...
And yes, I built it myself...
All parts are from Newegg.com, there are some cheaper prices if you shop around. But since I was buying the majority from the Egg, it made more sense for it all to come from the Egg.
CPU: Intel Core i7 965 Extreme 3.2 Ghz. Currently O.C. to 4.0 and stable.

Mother Board: ASUS Rampage II Extreme.

HDD's: 2x Western Digital 750 GB SATA2.

Video Card: BFG Tech. GeForce GTX 295 1792MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card - Retail (BFGEGTX2951792E GTX295 R) The 1792 is the Video RAM in MB, the Egg doesn't seem to have this one currently, and only offers a water cooled version at the same memory level.
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-1000HX 1000W.

(this price includes some items not shown, blu-ray burner/player, and Vista Ultimate)
Price out the door and shipped... $3,876.72

I haven't gotten all the parts yet, but they are coming. (I was, and still need to put this up in Cat's "I7" thread, or make my own).
CPU... i7 920
MB.... Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R-Intel ATX
GPU.. 2X 9800 GTX+ 512mb SLI
RAM.. 12gb of 6-5-5-18 clocking. DDR3 2000+ triple channel
HDD.. 2x Maxtor 500gb and WD 200gb SATA II (all from old comp)
PSU.. 1,000w KINGWIN Mach 1 ABT-1000MA1S
OS... Vista Ultimate (same as my other rig)
Case. Antec 1200
Misc.. Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi titanium 7.1,
Reusing: Blue ray DVD SATA; Dual layer lightscribe DVD +/- RW SATA; as well all the hard drives.
I should have everything this weekend, and hopefully installed. My minor problem is getting everything off my HD's saved to DVD's, so I don't have to do a major reinstall of FSX and FS9.
And just an FYI.... my old CPU went up to 224 F in temps, and kept shutting down. MB temp was stable at 83F.

| Thanks for the replies. I am surprised that this long after the release of FSX that it it still a challenge to get equipment to run it full out. |

This will probably out perform my GTX295 if there is any truth to some of the benchmarking I have done.

Believe me, this was a hard choice to make. I was looking really hard at getting 2 of the GTX285's. I did some checking around, and for the "bang for buck" category, I had to go with 2 9800GTX+'s. Good thing is, they are still excellent cards.

I kept getting BSOD's, and about 11 different reasons why it was crashing. It would do this repeatedly 5 times in an hour. I let it sit overnight power off and disconnected. When I powered it back up the next morning, I went straight to the BIOS. In 3 minutes time, tops, the CPU was at 224, and MB at 83. Room temp was about 75F.
It is 7yrs old, but man, I did not like what I was seeing. The fan was working, and the pipes were clean. So I guess it was time to retire the old girl. And she has been a good girl, for the 7 yrs I had her.

yeah, I'm on the POS laptop.

Hi guys,
I just built a new machine. Had to work on a tight budget.
C2D E8400
4gb RAM
9600GT Nvidia
GB EP43-UD3L mobo
CoolerMaster T05 Case
I know most parts aren't top of the range but im really happy with the performance of FSX/FS9 on the machine. Locked the frames at 30 and settings are at ultra high. Great performance. |

@ nfarooqi,
Welcome to Surclaro! Don't worry about the tight budget. All of us at one time or another have been in the same place. We are more excited to have you on board as a member dude, believe me!
Keep coming back!

Is SHIFT + Z the combo you're referring to Cat? |

Hold the shift key. Then hit "Z" once, twice, three times a ladayyy, ... While holding the shift key, you can get 3 separate readouts on the top of your screen by hitting the "Z" key for each one.

Not sure what you are asking 121?
Both RD and I are running 12GB of triple channel DDR3 RAM.
I don't think there is a limitation on the triple channel usage either, it's based on how the mother board uses the memory (how many slots you have) triple channel comes in one GB sticks, so if you have three slots you can have three GB of triple channel memory. In RD's and my case we both have six RAM slots on the board and plugged in six sticks at two GB per stick to total the 12 GB we have. If you went with 1 GB sticks this would be 6GB total.
I'm not aware of a Vista limitation at 8 GB of RAM?
There is a difference in 32 Bit Vista and 64 Bit Vista though. 32 Bit is 4GB or less "seen" because of the addressing of the memory. |

See that's the confusion... My system and I 'm sure RD's as well does recognize the 12GB.
Windows XP Home/Pro 32 Vs XP Pro 64 is a different thing than Vista, well at least to me anymore... |
