Funny part is, you can customize the function for FSX in the Control panel, but i just learned about that, and am just now getting a steady 15-20 frames with good quality, plan on ramping that WAY up. (30fps perfect quality)
But i do agree that a better machine doesnt make you a batter pilot, but it sure makes it easier to see.
I convinced a friend from the Civil Air Patrol to purchase Microsoft Flight Simulator about four months ago. When we determined that his equipment was too old and too slow to run FSX, Mike elected to purchase a brand new "super powerful" computer.
I had dinner with Mike and his wife last night. After dinner, I helped him to configure the Display settings on his computer. When I started, all of his settings were at Medium and he was experiencing about 55 FPS. After I sent about an hour tweaking his settings, we were able to bring the FPS down to about 35 FPS. Rather than staying an additional hour with Mike, I chose to drive home and get some sleep.
In conclusion, I was very impressed with his super-duper computer with all of the bells and whistles. However, I stand by my choice to save money for my retirement rather than spending several hundreds dollars. It sure was nice to be able to see what FSX looks like with most of the sliders close to their maximum.
And as he knows, mine kicks his ass. (sorry Clay).
Never be sorry when you are right, like I need to say that to a Marine.
I didn't research the card I got very well, "latest and greatest" won out over "research the card for the application". Now, with a bit of envy, I am looking into 9800 cards.
Purely for the information, I need to understand above all else.
Just want to add, I been flight simming since the 80s my 1st was an appleII givin to me with fs 1, I was hooked, then I bought an Amiga500 for around $600 bucks new which blew any IBM thing away, but I wanted it for one thing, to run fs 2, with sound and awesome graphics practicly unheard of at that time well within the next 2 years I migrated to IBM because fs3+4 was already out of date and never was released for amiga fs5 was coming out and everything was for IBM... again I wanted it for one purpose FS5 and the to be 95. Iplopped down about $2,000 bucks for a IBM dx66 loaded to the gills (haha) last manufactured pc I ever purchased. It seems that I've always been lacking the pc horsepower and have always been behind a few years (budget) Example: FS9 on a socket 875 P4 2.8ghz, 128meg agp,2gig ram @ a whoppin 15 fps is where I was 2 months ago. So I built a new i7core for FSX and the next 5 to 7 years of use. Point is just about everything in it was gathered from either the lil sigatures of flight simmers that have the system specs in it or about someone Bragging/Being Excited... about their new hardware.
