OK Flight Simmers here is the problem. During multiplayer my flight sim will not keep up with other players even though frame rates are acceptable (20-40 fps) so my computer is not the issue. I will be in normal rate and large discrepancies are noted in the airspeed between the GPS, VOR and digital red speed display (Shift+Z). Sometimes this problem occurs to others in my session and not me...so it is not my computer.
This does not happen all the time. It is a sudden occurence, infrequently.
All players in session are operating at least 1.3GHz or better, 512 RAM or better, 64MB video card or better, Windows XP OS. Again this is a spurious problem....often days or weeks go by without it happening.
At first I thought it was connected to using GameVoice, more frequent but not an always situation. Then it occured using voice over MSN Messenger Service, again, less frequent and certainly not an always situation.
Sometimes it occurs with no voice connection to other players.
Sometimes it does not occur when session is set up but will occur if a new mission or flight is initiated in same session.
Sometimes it occurs when FSNav is used and I am hosting. Sometimes occurs when others host FSNav. Sometimes when FSNav is not being used.
Situation always goes away with reboot. Aircraft type and number of players does not make a difference. Display settings do not make a difference (like I said, frame rates are usually well within acceptable ranges).
Usually it only affects one player in multiplayer session. That person must to to 2x sim rate to keep up with formation. The only airspeed that is accurate is the VOR DME and speed. GPS and red digital speed is not the same as VOR speed...indicates what other aircraft are doing but not how computer is performing. Really whacko.
It acts as though some switch is being turned on or off and only reboot fixes it. Any insights would be helpful.
I haven't been active in a FS2K2 multiplayer session, but I do know that sometimes, (especially with a broadband connection), one player in the session can affect the others if there is a slowdown in his connection for some reason. Also, if you and your group are using add-on aircraft with large file sizes along with panels with large files, this can really do some nasty things to a multiplayer session. I'm only familar with FS2000 multiplayer sessions, but I'm sure these situations can be applied to both sim versions. Since you see this with and without GameVoice running, I would rule that out.
Try to confirm what kind of connections you and the other players have, (DSL, Cable, Modem, etc.), also, even though they're cool, some aircraft models just put a big strain on a processor and video card if the files are huge. Try to make sure all players turn off as many programs as they can that are running in the background of their desktops. I'm sure there's allot more that can affect your sessions. Just try to pay attention to anything out of the ordinary that might occur and make a note of it. Simple deductive reasoning might be your best tool in this case.
