I have a Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro-joystick.

Problem is that the joystick one times works, other times not!
It is even so that while flying sometimes the joystick stops working!
I have to restart, and then he works (sometimes) fine.

The connectors are all good connected. If the joystick works, he is perfect! All funcitons works.
It is automatic detection bij Microsoft. I put in the Joystick and XP plops a windows with FOUND SOMETHING!!!!

But the problem stays... some times he works, some time he is really 100% dead.
In Config-screen is than NOT CONNECTED the view that i get.

Does anybody knows a reason or solution?

How old is the joystick, and how frequently do you use it?

Hardware can get finickey.

Try going into Device Manager and "delete" the joystick. This may clear out some potential bugs.

Go back into Control Panels and "Install New Hardware".

Perhaps this will give you a clean setup. Cool

The joystick is (i think) 4 years old, but still in good condition.
I removed and re-installed the joystick about 300 times.

1 thing more: while flying sometimes suddenly the gear goes out or the Kneeboard is coming up!
I dont press something!

I think he is old and hast to be replaced.... i dont like that. Evil or Very Mad

I know this probably wont affect the outcome, but sometimes its not the device but rather, the cable that could be at fault. Try watching your hardware devices screen in the windows control panel and gently bend and twist the cable a small section at a time.

Well in 99% cases it is the cable, I had a similar ptoblem with my mouse. it'd go inssane, start clicking all the time, jumping around...turns out the tthe cable had a short somewhere.

Reinstalling doenst work.
I have opened the joystick (and the computer) and checked all cables.

The problem was that a cable-connector of 16-pins not was perfectly well-connected in the joystick itselfs.

So I put it right and the problem is solved!!!!!!
So it was something with the cables!

What I found out is that there are 4 iron balls in my joystick.... but why?
