Is there a place that explains each line on the fs9.cfg file?
When the sliders are changed from within the program(Options) is this the file it changes?
I guess my main question is this. Is this just another (techie) way to modify the STANDARD setting in the options menu or can you do more with the cfg file?
I posted earlier with the lines I am considering changing. I just like to know what I am changing so I know what to look for when I restart fs9
Thanks... |

yep ... fs9 is the file that gets changed when using program options... however, I always thought it to be an easy/novice way of modifying it... there are several other settings that can be changed manually
Here is an URL explaining some of the settings - in most cases, the name is self explanatory.

just saw your other post - you may want to reduce TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT down to 200 (400 is more suitable for 256MB Ram Card) .. this setting sets the data transfer rate to video, and faster value will only speed up loading - however, too high a value may cause stutter.
Things to remember: Screen res. is often overlooked, but plays a vital part in framerate..
Your scenery.cfg is set for 38.2m DEM (those settings look similar to mine) - on a low frame rate, you might want to consider how often you fly in 38m scenery, and how often you fly on 76 or higher.. perhaps you would get a better sim experience by decreasing TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL to 19 (default 76m DEM).
Visibility, clouds, autogens are other cruicial factors - I use FSW highest clouds performance textures, with Resized Autogen Textures (by Bart Dylkiewicz).. not the autogen patch though (I don't believe it works) |

| A really neat addon is FS configurator. It allows you to make and save multiple configurations, and choose which one to start from so you can have many different setups depending on what type of flight, where and what aircraft you intend to fly. It is also useful for setting up a config that is framerate friendly for multiplayer modes. I love it. |

After I read this I checked my config file. With my new found power (see knowledge) I discovered this
"TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=1706121726861099700000000000000000000000000000.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=-1.442366
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=391"
I do not know what changed these values but when I entered my best guesses for more appropriate values, bingo. I got better frame rates and the lay of the land without the "wierdness" that I assumed was normal.
Thanks and keep it shiney side up. |
