@ Nano404, Ha ha, I put up with one of those SIS 300/305 cards for a while but dropped $40cad on an ATI 7000 radeon and picked up a 17" Compaq flat screen CRT Trinitron in perfect shape for $75cad. Big difference for a few bucks even though I am drooling for a new system with the whole PCI express setup! Oh and by the way, this topic should be called "Can of Worms" (Open at own risk, heh heh!) I think I'll go with the concensus on this one and seriously look at the latest PCIe stuff from NVIDIA when the time comes. Wink

3DMark2001...lol. Welcome to the Dark Ages...and thanks for the skewed results. Comparing a FX5000 series to ATi's XT's. Wow...I'm pretty versed on both products and can tell you that they system an ATi runs on is much more tempremental than it's counterpart. Nvidia doesn' care much, unified driver and all. ATi's drivers...hmmmm...no wonder it's known as Always Terminally Ill...ATi...get it? LOL.

I stand by my decision and from what I hear from the pro's...your statements hold no value. If you want to be a consultant...be it known that you are the first one who gets their head kicked in for offering a mediocre product to a customer that wants a jewel, rather than a rock. If you really want to be in the know...look at the 7000 or Quadro Series compared to ATi.

The debate will go on and on, but if you want to get serious...then buy a serious product. Nvidia. Yeah they are expensive...they have value. End of discussion.

Not so fast 'man. I believe in the systems approach. A properly paired motherboard/video with plenty of RAM will produce results no matter which processor you are using. I use the 9600xt and cant say I've had any issues with it unless I tried to over extend my mods. My ATI is plugged into an Intel 800mhz fsb mobo with HT. Current processor is Pentium4@3ghz. I have no complaints about my graphics or g-speed, but then again, I dont work for Industrial Light and Magic, either Laughing

wiseman,

Look again at the stupid post you just sent. The scoring is from 2001. Not anything current. You expect a 4 year old card from nvidia ( FX 5900 ultra ) to be able to keep up with my 1 year old card ( 6600GT has been out for over a year now ) and the other cards, even ATI ??? PLEASE !!!

All they are doing is comparing apples to oranges. Find something somewhere that is an HONEST comparison test between my 6600 GT and an ATI 9800 PRO, in flight sim 9 (fs2004). And if you really want to make it apples to apples, go against the 6800 GT.

ATI may rock.

WELL PUT ARDIE!!!

Comparing apples to oranges is about it! Do some research and you will see that NVIDIA just is overall THE BEST ON THE MARKET TODAY!!! HANDS DOWN!!! I am by all means not trying to condemn anybody that has an ATI card or any other graphics card in their system... but please... if you are going to discuss, compare or critique a piece of hardware... please get your facts straight before doing so. Putting aside my computer experience, and going only on the other posts here from Exxman and Ardie and the others... who have only stated FACTS... is should be quite clear now that we are in fact stating only that... FACTS! Proof is that NVidia is the leader of the market and the best graphics cards currently out there as I stated from previous posts. I too like others on here have been thru the different cards on the market today because of me working on computers for over 20 years. I will not just state opinions... I base my posts on facts! Speak to the hand

P.S. Yes Ardie... the 6800 GT ROCKS YOU LIKE A HURRICANE!!! Dancing

I'm running an ATI 9550 with 256mb memory. okay, it's a stripped down card, but it runs away with what a similar nvidia card can do. It will run fs9 with everything on max with plenty of headroom.

Okay people, lets not have an ATi vs. Nvidia war. Serves no purpose and only leads us back to where we are right now.

Comparing cards/hardware is a tricky business. You gotta pick the right products to do so. No point in comparing older models with new, high-end with low, default FS setup with a fully loaded one. I'm sure your system performs with the description you've provided Keiron...and then someone comes on here and says 'run it with the LevelD a/c, Simflyers Airports, FS Live Traffic, AS 5 etc.etc. and the scenario changes. We do the best with what we have. It's when blanket statements are made that proclaim to tell the absolute truth that provoke heated responses. Those in the know will most likely find offense. Those that don't...learn not to make such statements. It's all good...actually helps in a way but there is a better way to go about it. One man's treasure is another man's garbage...lets just keep it real, and without proclamations of illegitimate claims. (not directed at you K )... Wink

Well, I have an ATi card, and it rules!!!! It's the best card ever produced in the history of graphics cards. I have unlimited fps with all my sliders set full, and I just looked at the latest poll on www.gfxcards.com where it reflects my card as NUMBER 1!!!! Very Happy

Note: I'm joking. Laughing

I did, out of curiosity, do some research. The information I gathered (accurate to the last 30 minutes of this post) is that the ONLY card ATi has that can compete with (not surpass) the 6800Ultra is the ATi Sapphire/Radeon X800SE ($528.00usd). The pendulum could swing either way between the ATi X800SE and Nvidia 6800Ultra cards depending on the application. Nvidia has created and recently released the 7800GTX which has again given Nvidia the lead in graphics card technology and performance. Hey, I have an ATi card, and to be honest, I could really care less about the ATi vs. Nvidia competition that has been going on for some time between the hard core pc gamers. The numbers and reviews I looked at speak for themselves, and as of today, Nvidia has the lead with the 7800GTX.(7800GTX will cost you $579.00usd @ Newegg.com)

Your Nvidia card is a whole lot better than mine when it comes to anti-ailising. My ATI, can't keep up with your Nvidia card.

Now who's #1 baby.

All for fun, thats all. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Just to keep us all up to date...hottest grafix card out is Nvidia's Quadro FX 4500 series...7800's are old news LOL. The former will set you back some. But tomorrow there will be another one...and another...

If you can get a better score then fair play to ya Very Happy and maybe you might convert me back to Nvidia.....

Note to :
Exx
The reason Nvidia are in all the top brand pc's is because they pack a big money punch. Nvidia is like Microsoft or any big corp. If Nvidia could, they would be the only sellers of G cards.... Nvidia motherboards come with ATI chip sets? NO! So what do you HAVE to buy to work well with your Nvidia board? Good god a Nvidia G Card.... well that was unseen!

i have a 2522 Radeon 9800 pro it runs prety well, but i have a 1 gb RAM
