(email sent to me via friend)
Hi!

I was just wondering if my system is going bad or something. Getting about 12-19 fPS with settings about 1/3 up. IS this right?

my specs:

Xp 2600+ (Tbred)
ECS 741-GX motherboard
1G ram
80G Disk
NVIdai FX5200 w/ 128 ram

Should I upgrade my video card? I want another Nvidia product (not ATI) so what do you recommend?
Thanks,
Jim

Anyone here running something close to this?

Exxman

Your friend might have some spys or something because my:

  • Athlon XP 2400+
  • 256mb ram
  • Nvidia MX 440-SE w/64 mb

runs at about 25 FPS with settings 1/3 to 1/2 up

Hi Exxman,

one of the biggest killer is screen res., and for some reason seems like almost everyone ignores it. I normally run FS at 1600X1200X16bpp which gets me an avg. of 18FPS - if I reduce it down to a smaller 1024X800X16bpp, that jumps up to 30FPS+ (note: colour depth is also important, mainly on a low memory video card)

on 64MB/128MB Video Card, a lot of other issues come into play - mesh lod, texture size to name a few. Also, amount of available RAM is quite important, but at 1GB, he should have plenty of that. As paul said, it might have bad processes running - so ask him to run it through SpyBot + SpyWareBlaster

Finally what scenery is it.. for argument sake, I bet one would get a lot higher frame rate when flying over bangladesh, than Manhattan or London.

Hey thanks guys.

You know, I'm gonna get him to join here and maybe he can put up some screenshots of his settings and you all can have at em. Gave him your suggestions, already had him on Spybot and Adaware so I don't think that is his problem. Just saves time (for me) and gets him onto a wealth of info.

Thanks again for the help!
