While I am downloading this short clip (always prefer it over strreaming) I am taking a guess that it is the Kai Tak Airport, and a Japan Air 747 with the extreme rudder action.
EDIT watched it, yep I was right.... but it wasn't crosswind that made it look like that. It is Kai Tak's unusual offset approach, which makes pilots to make a 45 degree turn while maintaining the glideslope not above 1000 feet over a city. Only the last left turn is because of the wind. |

Outstanding videos Skipperdan!
Anyone else want to know what happened to the Harrier?
I have seen another video in which a H-3 Sea King had the same thing happen. It was hovering over the same spot for upwards of 15 to 20 minutes and it ended up blowing the air out from underneath it and crashed.
I feel for that pilot of the Harrier though... In the chute and slammed back into the plane, that had to hurt! |

He is right and that is how you need to land in crosswinds. Not fun to land in that stuff.
Also flightlevle350 is an awsome site! |

Circles, do you mean the thing about pointing your plane?
Its an old aviotion saying, means think before you act, think at least a few minutes in advance. If you expect to be handed off to the other frequency, tune it now in the standby radio, and when the controllor tell you to contact the other frequency, you have time to readback, and say goodbye, then just click, and that's it. Basically, that is what it means. |

re: myheadspinsincircles,
for the Korean 747 landing at Kai Tak, the pilot was performing a side slip, it is an old technique used by pilots to slow down when they come too fast in the approach, in fact I performed one last night landing in China, XianYang, by doing the sideslip, as you all know you break the flow of air and the aircraft will slow down , but just dont land doing the slip as you will flip, wow im a poet and I just dont know it
sorry

lmao, shat a brick is a scottish phrase, it means to sh*t yourself, but do it so much that you can build a mansion from it, tiz rather amusing, "I shat a brick and built a mansion"
