This happened yesterday. Apparently it was a pilot and a student pilot that got lost. After the FBI questioned them, they were released.
Kinda hard to believe you could fly that close to the White House and not realize where you are. Too many landmarks in that area not to know. |

They were apparently using an old map. You would think that they should be required to have current day maps. |

They are required to have current maps. The FAA Flight Standards people have some hard questions for them. The pilot in command could have his certificate suspended. |

I saw a follow up story last night about that A/C...
I wonder if the occupants of the A/C realized just how close they came to being shot down or what they must have thought when they found out they were possibly just a few short seconds away from being blown out of the sky. |

In a couple of the newsfeeds I was listening to while it was happening, they said he was being "escorted" or "trailed" by the Falcons....just wondering, isnt the cruise speed of the 150 below the stall threshold of the Falcon? You gotta love sensationalist nitwit reporters for trying to "illustrate" their stories |

...in another story reported while it was happening, a reporter reported what an eyewitness on the ground was seeing and it went something like this...
"I'm not sure what's going on right now. Apparently two unidentified F-16s have entered the restricted airspace around the D.C. area..."
I can't say what I'd like to say about the "eyewitness" or the reporter that allowed that stupidity to be aired, in these forums. |

How about just plain looking out the window? That were me, I'd want to take a look at the White House from above purely as an enthusiastic tourist. Kind of like flying around Seattle and not looking for the Space Needle...whats the point?
Some people here in BC are getting a little annoyed with GA a/c. They just get in the way, or cause trouble for larger commercial a/c. Sure it's probably the same for our fine southern neighbors as well. Can't blame them...beautiful scenery to fly. Just gotta watch out for the big guys I guess.

I really wonder about what kind of message we are sending to foreign terrorists.
We are allowing Mexicans to cross the southern border.
Some of you will probably remember something that happened about two years ago in Tampa Florida (close to me). A student pilot stole a small Cessna, flew over MacDill Air Force Base and crashed his plane into a Bank of America building in downtown Tampa. He was monitored by a Coast Guard helicopter. The helicopter tried to signal him down. I can not believe that a renegade aircraft can fly over MacDill AFB considering the high level of security at that base. It was the command center for Desert Storm.
The small aircraft was allowed to fly over Washington DC this past week.
PS: I treated my 30 year old son to a Discovery Flight this past Saturday from the airport where the student pilot stole the aircraft that crashed in Tampa. |
