Because of my crappy video card, I stopped playing FS.
One day, I accidentally clicked the safe mode button of FS. When I started playing, I noticed that the graphics were so much better! I know safe mode renders the game with the software only. It is completely independent over the video card. Therefore, the video card is excluded from the rendering process. With safe mode, I receive much better frame rates and much clearer scenery. The bright taxiway problem I had earlier was fixed because of safe mode.
Why should there be video cards if there is safe mode? |

Might be your card if fried..?
Safe mode disables certain drivers and runs windows in VGA mode...very low res. It is used for troubleshooting device conflicts/errors mainly. You've bypassed the vid card and are running standard VGA settings is all. But it's not high res that is why FS is running faster.
If you can, get a hold of another card and see if that is the problem. Have you tried a complete reinstall of Xp? Might be your registry is corrupted as well.

| Yes, I know registry errors are common? How can I fix it? Is Norton Systemworks a good product to fix common Windows errors? |

I wouldn't touch anything with Norton personally.
Registry mechanics and cleaners are all over the place. But...it's kinda like taking your car into the shop for a tune-up when what it really needs is a muffler...
I'd do a backup and then reinstall Xp personally.

Sorry Exx,
But if your car is running bad, a muffler won't fix it. But a bad/clogged catalytic convertor will as far as the exhuast system goes.
But otherwise you are right!! |

Yep, if your cat is blocked then you will notice a marked decrease in performance/economy. If it's get real bad it will start to puke up through the carb/air intake...nice hissing sound when you tromp on it...!!
But not to hijack the thread...I'd still do a reinstall of Xp...

| If I do a complete reinstall of XP, it will erase everything on the hard drive. |

Lorti is right. But you need a partition manager like Partition Magic or something to do that properly and safely.
You should have a backup of your HDD anyways...right?
Or your other option is to run Xp in safe mode forever...

Like I said before, I have Flight Simulator installed on a separate drive. Will reinstalling XP affect Flight Sim (shortcuts, settings)? I know Microsoft Word needs to be reinstalled once a reinstall of the OS has been performed.
I've done many backups and they take a super loooooooong time. I think a backup will be beneficial to my computer, as it is lagging big time.
I'm going to use Nero Backitup lol. |

You can use AFCAD Ver 2.x to reinsert the reg keys for FS. Don't know if it will be successful or not though. Just reinstall FS again I'd say as it doesn't take long.
