Google maps is now in 3D for the major American cities.
http://earth.google.com/
It is free to download and may give you a better idea of what these cities look like in 3D, though the buildings are only in gray.
I thought some of you, scenery designers might like to know about it.
Hoping that it can help someone in their designs.

The download feature was not working a few days ago. However, I downloaded the file last night and fell in love with it. Thanks for the Heads-Up. |

Try this one guys and gals. http://maps.google.com/
Leave it on map, and close in using the bar on the left. When you find your area, hit the satellite on the upper right. You can find your house and neighborhood.
VERY COOL

unfortunately, the maps are only for GB/USA and the sattellite pictures are not so accutate either (here).
But now, go to the moon page and zoom all the way in. What did they say the moon was made of again?
Oh, and i read that today the moon is suposed to the closest in 20 years, and it is supposed to be 2/3 bigger. Unfortunately we have 7/8 clouds here at the moment (and its late here right now, i hope You read this in time) so i cant see it... |

BS, MTF,
I can see Aviano AFB, Italy, CLEARLY, as well as France, Germany etc. Look alittle closer to the world, Africa (sorry) doesn't have any real importance ( I don't mean to make it sound rude), so no, you won't find YOUR house.
But I bet Exx probably could.

| Hey, Mythrillfan It's midnite here in Ontario, Canada (EST) and I just got home...the moon is full tonight and looks to be 2/3 larger and all the surface details were much clearer now that I think about it. Not the first time it's appeared that large to me though, over the years I've seen it that large several times and all rusty reddish and hazy and spooky looking, probably an illusion through some atmospheric stuff. Killer to look at sometimes. (I really have to get a camera!) |
