Double check that the gauge you used was the correct one for your version of FS. Usually the best way to be cold/dark is to set the aircraft up that way after your flight and save it as the default flight by checking the option box when you end/save your flight. Whatever you do, dont manually delete the original default flight as that will *beep* up your FS. The next time you start, your sim should start in the aircraft you saved with a cold flight deck. You will find that if you select another aircraft, it will still be cold and dark as a result of selecting a new default situation.
