I have begun to think about reinstalling XP. Have some problems with that: i'm not sure weather it's easy enough (xp home) (havent installed it ever) and i have three partitions: one for linux, one for xp and one for 98/xp-linux transfer. Is i possible to format only the partition where XP is on? wouldn't want to recompile linux again.
Or, You could just tell me, step by step, what i should do.
Thanks in advance. |

I don't think you have to recompile Linux Myth...you can put Xp on it's own partition. I'll double-check that for ya.
Btw...this is a legit thread...doesn't belong in MA? Moving it...

still gathering my nuts to do this, but th link Exx gave me applies if:
| Quote: |
* Your machine already has Windows installed, and you are installing Linux as a second operating system, and
* You want to leave the Windows boot loader (NTLDR) on the MBR (Master Boot Record). This allows you to continue to boot Windows with no issues. I've heard that Windows 2000/Windows XP or anti-virus software may complain if the MBR does not contain the Windows boot loader
|
*I already have Windows installed and also have Linux installed. Will this make the link irrelevant to me? |

Not too familiar with Linux there Myth but I don't see any reason why you can't reinstall Xp. Might want to check Linux/Xp forums for the proper way to do it though just to get complete and accurate info. Good luck.

Well...all depends. Stick the disc in and it will do everything for ya. No need to intervene at all. Just remember to get the key code right and you should be on your way. It's easier to install Xp than an addon scenery...

Multi OP systems on the same computer is not a good idea when running a resource hog like FS9.... Even the biggist and best PC has limitations......
Buy a computer that runs nothing but FS9......

And why is that? There's no reason why it should be slowed down. And You're telling me to buy another 1000$ rig just for playing? get outta here |

| OHH!!!! come on TJ! just becuase there are mutiple operating systems, doesn't mean you have to run out and burn your money on another PC! when you run one OS, the other one DOES NOT RUN. I mean, sometimes that othr OS hard drive is prctically turned off! also, how many hardrives do you have on your computer? if you have mutiple os on one hard drive, its gonna be hard |

To each his own..
I have several computers, the biggest and the best runs nothing but XP/FS9 with Ghost image backups ... (Gezzz, FS9,, what a great program, Love to fly Alaska, I am addicted)
God Bless Uncle Bill!!!! When the genius reversed engineered CPM to DOS he set mankind on the road to the stars....... Bill made a lot of people money including myself... Love the guy....
Back to Earth...
I have some el cheapos (referbs) that runs Linux (poor man's Unix) and another with old '98 on it for support purposes. Linux is good system for web servers (cheap)....
Then I have an XP Home, that only runs database, business, and word processors..
I have a museum piece.. My first home computer. A 1982 Kaypro running CPM ( the father of dos) with 5 inch floppy floppy drives... It runs Wordstar 3, and connected via 1200 baud modem to Compuserve with a dot matrix printer (total 1500 bucks)... I had more fun with that than the Unix and Btos mainframes at work....
Now, You can build a good computer for under 500 bucks (watch the sales across the net)... Gona add another tube to FS9...
The multi Op system idea came about in the '80s when PCs cost a fortune (5000 bucks for an DOS 3 IBM color pc with a 5 meg hard drive)...
And Programmers had to use multi ops for testing code..... Some of these units had a processor for each op system...
Waiting for the day when the BIU (Brain interface unit) is done and all you got to do is have an operation on your head to plug it in and Boot up FSXX and really fly (I wonder if it will hurt when I crash?)...... It is in the works as we speak...
