Please see my documentation I did on what kind of system you might need for MSFS 2004 and maybe it will give you some answers. If not... we will try to help out all we can!

Bball...are you running AMD's Cool and Quiet? If so, update the drivers for it.
Also post up your complete specs please as well as a screenshot of Xp's Task manager showing all the processes running.

I'm also interested. I seem to have way to many tasks in my Task Manager because I can't get the window big enough to fit all. You can already depict that my computer is filled with programs.

Sounds like the junk in the task manager is eating up the memory... This happens at boot up... FS9 has to take the left overs.... Norton, especially, is a big memory hog....

Run Msconfig and check startup. Uncheck the junk you don't need....

I agree. Any type of antivirus or internet security suite consumes oodles of memory. I don't want to turn off antivirus because I am just afraid my computer will catch a virus while I'm flying. I am trying to find an internet security suite that uses very little memory.

what i do (if i need the extra memory, which is seldom as a gb lasts quite long before its all used up) is that i remove the network cable and then disable the virus check. now, this still wont give a 100% security rating, as viruses that You already have on Your computer might not have activated themselves yet, but as You disable the virus check... kaboom.

this still occurs extremely seldom, so its about 99.(9)% secure to do this. and if You still are not sure, then this should be even more secure: remove the cable, reboot the system, and then exit the antivirus software.

You have two processes that I question:

1. gdtask.exe
2. 205....whatever that filename is.
and multiple instances of rundll32 (nvidia) running??

Norton is a massive resource hog. Suggest Grisoft AVG or Trend Micro as they take up very little resources and work quite well. Your system is powerful enough not to disable anything and get good FPS though. Your video card is a huge bottleneck though. Kind of like having a Porsche with wooden wheels. Get Spyware Blaster as well...great addon for protection and don't run Internet Explorer.

Update your motherboard and CPU drivers as well. You have a lot of process running but right now I don't have too much time to go into them. Most can be disabled though and you should be down to about 30. Update all your drivers, get a good AV program and also get the demo of 3DMark 2003 and run the benchmarks and post up your score here. Lets see what happens. We'll look at those processes in detail by the weekend unless someone else wants to step in here...

i might have forgotten to mention but the computer that fs2004 is not hooked up to the internet, the norton and McAfee are just the trial versions that came with the computer. So i dont think i will need any antivirus.

I was also wondering what the 205 was

If I had to disable Norton Internet Security, will I have to end the entire process or just click "Disable Internet Security" after right-clicking the norton icon at the lower-right corner?
