Guys,

Just for the experience of flying through a thunderstorm, I have been tracking hurricanes all over the globe on free weather sites and then flying through them using realworld weather option enabled in FS9. It is downloading the realworld weather from Jeppesen all right and then also Xferring it to the Sim. However I have to tell you that the experience has been a huge let down! Except for some strong winds aloft, all I could see were a few puffs of white (clouds supposedly) and otherwise even the entire terrain below was visible clearly, when I should actually have been in the middle of a cyclone! Is this how it is with all of you or do you see dark skies and storm clouds and stuff? Is it some setting I have not set correctly?

I have FS 9.1 on a PIV 2.6 HT machine, NVidia GeForce FX 5200 256MB Graphics card, Intel 865GBF Motherboard with 2 * 512MB 400 MHz DDRSDRAM .

Microsoft never modeled "hurricanes" into their sims. BUT, you can set up hurricanes in WEATHER > ADVANCED as you can set your weather layers for particular "Weather Stations" and have the winds blowing in a HUGE circle with the dark thunder clouds and hellish rains.

(maybe for FSxII - FS12 - they will get tornadoes, hurricanes, sleet, hail.... more weather features in general and that it could actually hurt your plane/craft. one can only hope)

The current issue of Computer Pilot Magazine has an excellent article on how to set your own customized weather. Cool Cool

Prop:
There are many things that were not modeled into the sim as well as could have been, and "real world weather" is one of them, even if it is downloaded from Jep.

But thanks for dredging up a three year old post to say nothing more than I hope they fix it in the future... Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing
