I've been hunting, but no answers. THe word "collective" isnt in the forum according to the search.
A collective looks like the hand brake on your car.
Quote:
Using the Collective

The collective is a helicopter's primary altitude and power control. It varies the lift produced by the main rotor system by increasing or decreasing the pitch of all the main rotor blades simultaneously or collectively, hence the name of the control.
Raising and Lowering the Collective

In a real helicopter, you use your left arm to raise and lower the collective by moving a long lever that's mounted on the floor of the cockpit. The collective looks like the hand brake on a car.

Raising the collective increases the pitch (and therefore the angle of attack) of all of the blades simultaneously, increasing the amount of lift that the main rotor system produces.

Lowering the collective decreases the pitch (angle of attack) of all of the blades simultaneously, decreasing the amount of lift that the main rotor system produces.

When you raise the collective, you also increase torque. Therefore, you must also add left anti-torque pedal. Reducing collective causes the helicopter to descend and decreases torque, so to maintain coordinated flight, you must apply right pedal pressure as you lower the collective.

Pilotwannabe:

I am not coordinated enough to fly helicopters. However, I did observe a Helicoptor Flight Simulator setup demonstrated at the AOPA EXPO 2005 in Tampa and was very impressed.

I just checked out the link that you listed. It is FANTASTIC. You found a real good one Cool Cool

I just found this paragraph in TIPS AND TRICKS 19 available from Avsim.com

Go to http://hovercontrol.com/ and click on the Config
on the left side of the page. Then select Realism and
Settings for Helicopters. A printer friendly page is available.
is a site dedicated to all facets of Helicopter flying and
site if you are serious about flying these machines.

Those prices seem a bit steep for the average hobbiest though. Nice design though, and looks about as unconfortable as a helo as well, those seats have a built in time limit on them. Smile

Those instructions actually made it much more controllable. I may just go for a Saitek X45 to go with it.
