| i am totaly new to flight simulator and have recently bought fs2004, im still getting to learn the basics of flying, but my question is, is it possible to just sit in the airplane and have the computer or AI control your flight, e.g if you use flight planner and say you want to go from LA to Vegas, can you get the computer to fly that journey whilst you sit and watch the scenery without having to do any work?

"unfortunately u cant!! u have to fly the plane yourself like maintaining altitude, speed and navigating manualy and communicating with the ATC"
-:)jokes
it is possible to let the plane fly most of the route from one airport to another on its own. all u have to do is to plan a an IFR route and take off from ur depature airport it is advised to manually fly the plane to about 10000FT or cruise if u want and then switch on the autopilot master switch and finally select the altitude hold, speed(IAS) and of course switch on th nav button make sure u have clicked the nav/gps switch to gps for it to follow th filed route.
good luck!!
look at the screenshot for the whole picture

| As far as I know, you CAN do that. I remember reading it here on Surclaro a while ago. I remeber that you have to set the things like altitude, destination, cruise height etc., and you can sit back and watch. Hopefully someone who knows about this will reintroduce it.

Sounds feasible. Maybe together we can come up with the procedures for a hands-off flight.
First, it has to be a plane with toga/autothrottle, or at least airspeed under autopilot control.
Second, the plane must be loaded properly - fuel, weight. Otherwise, it would have a hard time flying itself off the runway.
Although it would be more difficult to program, you could probably do it with a plane like the PMDG or 737PIC. With the CDU, you could program the entire route.
The stock FS2004 GPS would fly you there, including approaches, but it's for lateral nav only. You'd still have to tune freqs and setup the ILS.
Unless it's one of the new generation planes. I fly the FeelThere 737PIC package. The CDU/Flight Director will do everything, including retune the radios and fly an Autoland.
Since my computer is currently Tango Uniform, anyone out there wanna try? It's a cool idea, and would be a learning experience, especially for the newer flyers who want to learn how the autopilot works.

OK then,
Which is the sillier question ?? Mine....Why would you want to have your plane controlled as AI ??
or
How do I make my plane fly like an AI??
This is a game/sim that involves YOU as the pilot, not a robot, or as a third party just to watch. What are you going to be doing while the CAI ( computerized AI ) is flying the plane?? (oops nevermind )
I don't know about the very few that like that/this concept, but I spent good money to enjoy the flights and learn while doing it. Not just to turn it on and watch what happens. C'mon, where's the challenge, the glory of saying I landed this POS and did it right, or made it without crashing.
