Hello all,

I have a question here:
How does FS manage scenery covering the same area? What happens if you have two sceneries covering the same area(s)? Will FS load up both sceneries (making it twice as slow) and overlap, or will it load up only one scenery in the order of priority? I was just wondering, because I have downloaded Alps scenery, but found another really cool scenery (so yes, I have 2 Alps sceneries Laughing , that's why I ask) Thanx.

It will load the scenery according to the library order. When loaded, whatever has the highest altitude will be left showing. If you have two or more af2 files for a given area, they must be uniquely named or you will ctd.

Ok. I have a few Alps scenery files in the 'Scenery/World/Scenery' directory, some in the 'Addon Scenery/Scenery' directory, and another just in the 'Addon Scenery/*folder*' directory. THe last one I mentioned is displayed in the Scenery Library. Which one will load? Will all three load? Or will only the last one load? Thanx.

Simply put, it will all load. In your minds eye, see this. First comes the mesh, this creates the contour. Then comes the scenery, including the airports. Finally the scenery objects are loaded. These items reside in several different locations in the FS directory. The scenery folder in the addon scenery folder is the primary file for any given addon scenery. It provides the instructions necessary for FS to display the desired image. The airport AFCAD will normally be in the addon scenery/scenery folder, but is sometimes placed in the scenery folder for the given scenery. The various scenery objects called upon by the scenery bgl may be in the specific scenery's folder or in the scenery world scenery or addon scenery scenery folder. The textures for the objects and scenery will be found in their respective texture folder or the addon scenery texture folder or the texture folder in the main FS folder. Say that three times real fast......

But if I have 2 Alps scenery files with unique name, they will both load, right? But how will it show up? will they overlap, so you get double scenery (which might make it look weird in some areas, especially their border coverage) or do you get a framerate dropage due to having to load them both? Will the second one even show up? Thanx. Laughing

It depends on the altitude of the various scenery and objects used by that scenery. For an example, if you use the 2k2 altiports scenery in 2k4, you may see several buildings and objects hovering mysteriously above the ground. There are some situations where due to possible addon mesh or scenery some objects may even be buried a bit into the ground. It takes a little trial and error as well as reading any notes about what the author had installed along with that scenery. Some will note for use with default or possibly other mesh or scenery.

Alright. I get the meaning now. But will this effect of 'double scenery' have an impact on framefates?
(Sorry for the many questions Laughing ) Thanx.
