I tried doing a landing, and Max you are absolutely right. I was doing a landing, and rammed myself into a building. I was just above 200 feet and that caused the problem, as i descended quite rapidly and would have hit atleast 100 - 200 yards before the runway.

A building crash meant dooms and I had to try all over again.

i think i have made some progrss with ILS approach - need some guidance though - essentially i create an IFR Flight and continue as per instruction susing most Auto Pilot controls i.e set alt and heading etc etc

when they give me the runway that i am cleared to land on what i do is go to the map - find the runway - click on it - find its ILS freq - and plug it into the standby meter of NAV 1 - at this point i bring my seld down to about 2400 - 2500 ft - and give 25 flap - i cant get the stupid over speed indicator to shut up - any way - as soon as they give me the actual ok land straigh in on runway 5L e.g. i switch the freq i entered in nav 1 standby from standby to active - and hit the APP button - and i start hearing these beeps kind of like morse code and the plain starts to turn and what not on its own - but for some reason i am not actually making it to the runway - it seems it wants to go towards the run way but usually just makes it way somewhere close - what is the little ID button for am i supposed to press that at any time ? am i on the right track to an ILS landing?

help is appreciated.

Hi09,
What is your airspeed on approach? Sounds like you're going waaaayyy too fast to intercept the localiser properly before you're on top of the runway. Depending on aircraft type and weight, final approach speed should be around 150kt, certainly no more than 180kt for a civil aircraft. The slower approach speed also gives more time to compensate for any crosswinds (unless you're landing at LFMK Carcassonne during the Mistrale!!)

ok i will try a slower approach - one more question is there any way to hurry up the transmissions between tower - they take forever to finish the sentance then it takes forever for me to repeat back - also any way to minizize the other people tower is talking too?

If you have Editvoicepack you can accelerate the ATC so the voices talk faster.

Hi09 has got the words right, you got to get yourself an IFR flight so that the build in ATC knows that you are trying for an IFR landing. Check the ILS freq of the airport / runway you are trying to land on. Try and get the charts for the runway too. Check the web you should get the same, putting the ICAO code + charts on google.

Do all what Hi09 has said, he has got them right. tune the freq with the ILS code, press the APP button. Your instruments will show you how high or low you are. Infact in bigger planes, the alttitude is also locked as you will see the ALT button light going off too. Which means now you have to only control your airspeed.

Now thats what i wanted to speak on. Usually for planes like B737, A320, landing speed is around 140 kts, approach is on 160 - 150 kts. On touchdown you shoudl be around 145 - 150 kts max.

I asked you to get the charts for the airport as it will tell you at what altitude you got to intercept the ILS cone. Keep the GPS windows on screen and check for the green cone. The ATC will usually tell you to maintain the altitude. If you check your DME, usually all ILS cones are caught by bigger planes at around 5 - 6 miles out. So after that you need to only control the throttle (use autopilot) and at DH (Decision Height) disengage your autopilot. This is usually at around 200ft above the runway by when you might have already crossed the beginning of a larger runway. The plane will descend and flare before touchdown, lest you want a nose gear breaking out!!!

Hope this helps too in understanding better approaches.
