Hi

I have this switch in the default King Air saying "Autofeather" then the green lights would come on. Just the question is what is Autofeather?
Thanx.

Quote:
The autofeather system is armed prior to every takeoff. Its purpose is to detect a failing engine and minimize its propeller drag. Should the system sense a drop in torque — the twisting force as measured at the propellers — oil is dumped from the sick engine's propeller hub, a feathering spring kicks in, and the propeller feathers automatically.

Just to let you know AUTOFEATHERING propellers are manditory for all multi engine turbo props. If they are unservicable the aircraft can not be dispatched.

Really? That's interesting... When my engines ran out of fuel (Autofeather armed) of my Rutan Boomerang (v1.2), the propellors kept turning, so I had to manually feather them.
I wonder why the Autofeather didn't work... Is this also so in the default King Air??

When they're feathered, aren't they supposed to keep turning? And when autofeather feathers them, do the controls move to the "feather" position?

The whole purpose of feathering the props is to reduce resistance. Therefore, when you feather a prop, it is rotated so that the blades are "horizontal" (I do not know if you would call this "zero" or "90" pitch) and the props will not be turning. By rotating the props into this parallel position, they will offer less wind resistance thus resulting in less yaw. Cool Cool

Excellent. No, they did not get to the "feather" position; I had to do that manually, then the blades stopped and I gained acceleration instead of losing it as I descended for the airport Very Happy
