Hey everybody! Well, I'm sure you remeber my last topic I created, "Going for the real thing". Well, I went today. I took a 152 up around KEET. I have to say, I'm hooked. It was a little windy, so the ride wasn't the best quality, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The instructor had me taxi, takeoff, he climbed it (windy), showed me how to turn, I made about 10 turns, descended it and he even let me land it. Here's the catch to all of this....I have a fear of hights. But I easliy overcame that (and my shaky nerves) just so I could do what I've been wanting to for abut a year now. I told the instructor that I have about 250 hours on Flight Sim, he told me that I looked prepared from the start and I was very good. Anyhow, just thought I'd give a shout to everybody. And any of you who haven't flown yet, I strongly suggest you try it. You will not forget it. Signing out, JC. |

Hats off and three cheers for you 06!
Hoo-Yah!, Hoo Yah! Hoo Yah!
Let's hear it for this young fellow simmer!!!
It seems that you have acheived a large step in your life. To have done so successfully is nothing less than fantastic! You have accomplished something that many of us flight simmer's can and will only dream about!
Some of us simply can't afford it for a hundred different reasons---most being financial. Some of us (like you) have sneaky, despicable little fears tucked away in deep dark recesses of our minds. Such as myself. I have no fear of heights whatsoever. But I have horribly distinct fears of falling! It's something that invades my night dreams, all the time.
I've heard tales that it's easy to go up, and it's relatively easy to fly under the best of circumstances, but it's the "landing part" that is the most difficult. Wow! You've done it all!
My hat is off and airborne for you, young Airman FSPILOT06! I am very excited and enthused by your accomplishment! You have done something great today not only for yourself, but for those of us who remain tethered to terra firma, and have yet to step up to the plate!
You have conquered a portion of your fears and have come out the other side victorious!!!
As For The Rest Of Us:
I think that this kind of posting is the best, the "very-best" kind of news that we virtual simmers can ever stand witness to, by virtue of our singular common purpose. Our love of aircraft, flight, the many thousands of details involved not only in our sport, but the true love of imagining ourselves going beyond our earthly bonds and all that is required.
I believe that accomplishments such as these deserve to be honored in some fashion on this or any other sim-site. How best to incorporate such an idea is not for me to say. I lay this matter into the hands of those who know better than I.
To think that a flight simulation enthusiast can make the transition into the real world environment is not only a tremendous acheivement but that it is well worthy of being honored in some outstanding fashion. Who knows where these acheivements may lead? Is it not possible to imagine some few may--if not already--become the new breed of astronauts (et al)?
We here who seem so dedicated to a single purpose, might better serve ourselves as a whole by realizing, recognizing and honoring those who have gone before us into the real skies of the world. For it is they who may bring back to us their real life lessons and real life experiences and with an unmatched dedications, from which we cannot help but benefit from.
This could be "what it's all about" if we all agree.
Are we not more assured of our longevity in this wonderful International Effort if we honor those who acheive?
A Grand Salute to Master FSPilot06.
Jaeg- (waxing eloquent). |

DEFINITELY! So happy to read your post, FSPilot06. I keep hearing this little quote in my head lately; "On your deathbed you won't so much regret the things you did, but the things you didn't do." So my hat's high in the air too, for anyone who is beginning to live their dream and can articulate that to others. This forum is the perfect place to share the news, nice going. |

Honestly though, CONGRATS and good job. That is an achievement that you will never forget. And believe me, that gut wrenching feeling you had, euphoria that was felt in the air, will still be with you when you hit 50. You will never forget those feelings. EVER !!
Jaeg summed it up pretty well. So I won't add to it other than the above. Just stay with it, and what you plan to do with it, is all up to you.
Good luck with your endeavors of FLIGHT.

I also would like to add my congrat's. If you do fly in to Destin in the future, make sure to fly something really, really, really loud to remind the nimby's that they moved in next to an airport..... |

And if you take the Rwy 32 approach, make sure you fly loud and slow over those highrise condos under your approach path. |

For two years in a row, my son treated me on my birthday to a DISCOVERY FLIGHT. After riding in the back seat of a Cessna 172 both times (taking pictures), he decided to take a DISCOVERY FLIGHT for his 30th birthday--It was my turn to ride in the back seat.
I ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY TO TAKE A CESSNA DISCOVERY FLIGHT. YOU WILL REMEMBER IT FOR EVER:
THE PRICE IS REASONABLE
152= $50
172= $70 |

Wow! I never expected such tremendous and honorable replies from this! The flight was really great. Like I said, it was a little windy (7 knots), and I had a fear of heights. I really impressed my instructor when I told him that a wasn't really looking out the window during manuevers.....my eyes were on the instruments. I was flying on instruments and my instructor said there hadn't been many come in that did that. I didn't know how good or bad the landing was....due to the fact that was my first landing. It was alright, I guess. Wasn't any worse than a small bump in a car. As far as the fear of heights goes....it did take me a minute to get to were I could look out the window. I saw what I thought was my girlfriend's house. That was confirmed when she called me later and said that she saw a small red and white plane fly over and she thought of me. IT WAS ME!! Yeah, I got her by surprise. My entire family is amazed at my achievement....I'll be the first pilot in family history. Well, I guess I'm dont bragging. I'm just so extatic about this flying. Thanks for all the great replies everybody! Everybody have a great day! -JC |

My parents are going to buy me introductory lessons at Paulwakee, which is some where in the north of where I live. This is supposed to be my gift for graduating elementary with honors, and possibly entering high school with all honor classes. I can wait, graduation is in June!

<-- New avatar! That's me beside the 152. You can tell by that grin on my face that I liked it. The photo was taken after the flight. Note the aviator style sunglasses.
Jaeger52: Yeah, I have thought about attending an aviation institute. I have to see if there's even one local, first. I don't want to move away from were I am again. I'm only 4 miles from my airport and the last place I lived I can honestly say I hated.
Well, I may be flying again here next week. I just gained some cash from graduation. I'm not sure yet. I want to fly again but I gotta watch my cash flow. If I make a little more within a few days I'll definitley be flying.
I'm hooked on aviation and I'll fly every chance that I get.
Happy Flying!  |

Strange... that's the exact opposite of what I've been taught. Keep the eyes outside, and quickly scan the instruments, but keep looking around, ya know, to make sure you don't hit anything... |
