Of course we need a pic of you in the simulator with the instructor frantically waving you away from the ejection seat grab handles.... |

long time no post..
Well guys, thats it. Long sleepless nights about thinking, planning and thinking some more... are over as far as pilot nav is concerned.
Today's sortie consisted of an hour flight where I would be 'tested' through all aspects of the Pilot Navigation course. This would include sound planning; with good fix(timing and track checks) as well as lengthy legs with good turing points at the end of them. At some point along this route, my instructor/examiner/pilot would chuck in some 'what ifs' - pretend failures/problems - and i would be expected to deal with them, provide suitable heading information along with areas to ditch or land.
Also along the route i would be tested at MSD (minimum separation distance, in our case 500ft or low level). Obviously low level nav compared to nav at say 3000ft is comparatively more challenging as features are seen at different view points and often seen later depending on terrain.
So in short I PASSED after only a year and a bit, with a *beep* up in between none of which was my fault... but hey after today im not complaining!!!
Highlights over these two weeks have obviously been getting back in the saddle so to speak, when routes go to plan, getting back to base in one piece (always a plus), low level flying and getting buzzed by the Gr.4... but best of all was the tinyest of things, this was when my instructor gave me a pat on the shoulder. Now this may seem like no big deal, but this guy is professional to every level - as you would expect from a former RAF Phantom and Tornado navigator. He would often show little as emotion as possible, but when he gave me the pat on the shoulder it was as if i had been accepted for being good at this navigation business. Being praised by a peer was the best highlight of all.
Anyhooooo... heres some pics of the latest course: http://www.bebo.com/PhotoAlbum.jsp?PhotoAlbumId=8628172788
Thanks again to you guys for supporting me through this. Been a pleasure informing you all.
Next step for me, a gliding scholarship then hopefully a flying scholarship and as the icing on the cake a PPL... or RAF pilot, hell i'd even settle for Navigator (I mean Weapons System Officer, as they call them now-a-days).

Excellent job my man.
Now put your right arm straight out, palm up. Put your left hand under your tricep, close to your elbow for support. Now raise both of them together, to where your right arm is straight up.
Now bend your right arm, at the elbow twice, quickly, and with conviction.
That's from me to you. Well done.
