Yeah, wait for a DX10 compatible card if you want all the eye candy that Vista will give you. Otherwise, get one that you don't plan on replacing for 2 years. This way you can get the most out of your investment. And not just throwing money like it was like last nights leftovers.

Yea! That's what I've been trying to convince my dad with to buy a very good (but expensive) g-card... So I dont have to replace it withing the next 2-3 years... rather than buying cheap ones every year... which, over the long run, will cost me more
And after the g-card, my system (although only 32-bit) should have enough guts to run Windows Vista... and run FSX. What is the difference in experience wether using a 32-bit or 64-bit processor for FSX? Give me examples so I can build a picture in my mind of how it compares.

Please forgive me for throwing some cold water on your subject. However, I have been reading this "long" subject for several days and I have to laugh about each of the posts.
You say, " What is the difference in experience wether using a 32-bit or 64-bit processor for FSX?" Please stop asking what is required to run FSX because the final chapter has not been written yet. I wish that everybody would stop making quick judgements about the "Demo" version of FSX. The Beta Test team is currently reviewing Beta Test #3 and we are still working closely with Microsoft.
You say, "That's what I've been trying to convince my dad with to buy a very good (but expensive) g-card... So I dont have to replace it withing the next 2-3 years... rather than buying cheap ones every year... which, over the long run, will cost me more" Are you paying for all of your new gadgets or is dad going to foot the bill".
What is the real issue here? (Multiple choice question).
1. Bragging rights to having higher FPS than the guy next door.
2. Trying to play "Fortune Teller" and predict what will be needed to support FSX, DX10, and Vista.
3. Helping you and your dad to make wise financial decisions. Is it wise to spend a lot of money now or is it smarter to wait until after all of these products are released before determing which computer componts are OK and which ones need to be updated. |

Actually Skipper, (I should have said this earlier...) me and my dad share the bill... Like I might pay, say... $150 of the full price (I paid all for the H/D)... and my dad pays the rest. So... yes and no
As for the Multiple Choice question... the answer is 3

Okay! Just installed the 500 gig Seagate H/D and is working!!! YAY!!!
Now just a question before I move the whole FS2004 chunk (about 50 gig) to the new drive... Will moving it affect the liscenses and activation of my payware downloads?
Thanx

Okay! The whole FS2004 folder has been moved... took 3 hours lol... But my new drive is faster than my older Maxtor 120GB.
Okay... now I am planning for my next upgrade to be a better power supply. Is this a good one? Its 850 Watts
http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRatingReview.asp?Item=N82E16817703002
Its pretty expensive, but I need to know if its worth it... cuz i want to get Intel's Core 2 Quadro Extreme thats coming up in Q4 2006 or Q1 2007. I heard it was going to need about 180 Watts at Idle, while the Core 2 Extreme needed that when it was running max power... OUCH Especially with my current 300 Watt Supply...
And also with a R600 or G80/G90 g-card... Cuz what everyone says: More power, the better!

Ooh, that seems like a good deal! I wonder if they are available here in Egypt... cuz my dad said that if you hafta import it from America or Europe, there will be a 100% (or somewhere around there...) tax fee, making it twice as expensive as it is. Is that true?

Check with your government. You should have a trade or import department that will tell you what, if any taxes you have to pay.
I can garauntee that it is not 100% for taxes. If that was true, nothing in Egypt would say Made in America.

ok, thanx RD.
I also heard that Windows Vista would be delayed (again... ) until Christmas... which would mean that FSX would also be delayed...
The good new is, is that it gives me some time to save up for the new hardware that will be required to run this thing

*Big Sigh*
I'm soo disappointed about Microsoft not releasing FSX WITH Windows Vista and the upcoming DX10 cards, so that we can instantly enjoy its fabled glory in DX10 and mindblowing grafix
Why did they do it like this? FSX (what I heard all over the place) is crap with DX9! Think about it, when DX10 comes out, with the experience we have with it now, we wont expect much anymore to come from it! We think it is crap, and it is HARD to change an opinion from "crap" to "AWESOME!!", isnt it?! Yes, we have been waiting for DX10 (again ), and now that we only have it in DX9, which most (if not all) ppl think its "crap" and "sloww", they won't expect too much difference with DX10 because of their disappointment with the previous excitement. Its going a little bit in the psychological level, but its what is to come. Just think about it. They might not be so enthousiastic anymore about 'the so-called-glorious' DX10 because of their disappointment in general with hte first time.
trust me, I know this, because I have experienced it myself.
Just a word of prediction, thats all . I'm still excited about it, and want to wait to install it for Vista to come, so I dont have to be disappointed! Get the hardware first, MAKE SURE its going to go at blazing-speed, has DX10, and all ready to go in its 'fabled glory' before installing the product. So I can IMMEDIATELY experience what I want the first time I play the game. Because if the first reaction is disappointment, then its HARD to get out of that mind state without being *beep* at "why didnt it do this before" or "what the hell.. im totally turned off by now" or "thanx for being so FRIGGIN SLOWWWWW in the beginning ". Do you get what Im getting at?
I'm happy with my descision of waiting for all the stuff to come in first. Just so I can get the first impression right. First impressions do count!!. If fact, first impressions are basically how you judge the whole game thereafter. So if your first impression is "OMG, its sooo slowwww, i cant beleive this!", then thats set to that, and its what you judge it from later..
Ok, enough said, I will get my hardware first and see how far FSX is going to take me

I prefer to "Wait and See" before spending a lot of money.
Note: I just increased my Main Memory from 1GB to 1.792GB.
My Main Memory Utilitation decreased from 85% to 45%.
My FPS improved from 12 FPS to 30 FPS (average sliders). |
