Hi,
I have a PIV 3.0 GHZ with HT, 512MB RAM, SATA HDD. I have FS 2004 and I play with FS Passenger DEMO version taking off from KSFO all the while . I see a strange thing, that my PC with HT, always has the PC runnnig at 100% CPU utilization when the game is running and also when paused when the window is opened.
What I need to know is since my PC does not have an addon Graphics card, is that the reason for the 100% utilisation. Will adding an add-on card reduce this load on the CPU. The main thing that is worrying me is whenever I play the game, the fan inside the PC starts to whine really hard, trying to cool the CPU I guess and that has caused me to not play the game now.
To reduce load, i normally do not keep any other windows open and also disable to norton antivirus running on the sys.
Please shed some light on whether adding an add-on card will reduce the CPU utilisation or not. Am attaching a snap shot of the same. Also suggest me some cards required for better gaming. I have a PCI Express slot on my motherboard and the approximate cost in India if possible for the same.
Thanks

The above 100% utilisiation occurs irrespective of the speed at which planes run, whichever plane i use, the clock speed, etc. If I dont play with FS PAssenger too, the same thing persists.
If I dont show separate CPU statistics, then the CPU usage hovers in the 50-55% range, often hitting 60 - 80 in bursts.

i got htis off a website that i lost, but when ur running fs9 bring up the task manager: go to processes, right click on the fs9 thing go to set affinity and only set it to one cpu.
YES get a graphics card but WAIT till the direct x10 cards are avilible or get a cheap 6600gt or 6200gt, hope this helps!

Hi,
Thanks very much, will try the option that you mentioned. I want my other query too looked into. Will using a Graphic card reduce the 100% utilitsation on the CPU.
With respect to other games too, this happens. I play games like Hard Truck 2, Delta force, for all this games, the same 100% is present. So wanted to know if the processor will get some rest off, if the Graphic Processor card is installed in my PC.
Thanks

I am afraid he does not have that option as it is meant for dual core machines. He stated he had a Pentium IV 3.0ghz with HT (that's Hyper Threading) which is to say he has dual channel memory, not dual processors.
As to a graphics card. Absolutely positively as soon as you can. The more video RAM it has, the better (up to a point, I havent seen the cost benefit for anything above 500meg).

GS: The topic i read said it was ment for Intel HT'S.
When i had a laptop, in the bios it said 2nd logical processor on, i think ht was an early dual thingy. I don't know...
Yes my laptop was an Intel ht.

| Yes, the "logical" processor reported it's presence because it is not a "physical" processor but rather a bit like virtual memory. Two physically present processors are called dual core. When a program that is not written to take advantage of dual core technology encounters it, there is often a slowdown in rendering. That is when it can be advantageous to shunt one of the processors to speed up the functionality of a particular program.

Hi,
I tried the options mentioned. The dual processor or core is a good debate. I wonder how dual core processors will take up the load.
I wanted a answer for the seecond part of the query. Will installing a Video card reduce the 100% CPU utliization.
Please give me an answer to this, bec if it lowers then I want to go in for a video card immeeidately.
Thanks
