Grr!!! The default ATC system can be a real pain when manually creating realistic AI traffic or using ATC add-ons like Ultimate Traffic, especially at medium and small airports!!!

Many Flight Buffs may have already noticed how un-realistic default ATC (although improved since earlier versions) assigns ALL Aircraft to the same runway (or a parallel runway). In real life, the aircraft type would help influence which is the best runway for that aircraft to use. At many medium and small airports, auxiliary runways are used by small planes when there is a crosswind, BUT the Big Boy Jets cannot land on them and have to fight the wind and land on the longer Main runway.

For example, my dad works at Morristown Mun, NJ (KMMU) says and No Jets are allowed to land/takeoff of the smaller crosswind runway UNLESS there is a 20 knot crosswind in respect to the longer main runway...

Are there any Patches or Add-ons to correct is ATC runway assignment issue WITHOUT using AFCAD to deactivate the small runway OR only designate smaller planes to that particular airport???

Hope to hear some responses,

P47Ace_007

actually, if you get AFCAD2 you can shutdown particular runways and leaves others open... as well as build new runways, taxiways, starting points, ILS's, all the good ground work EXCEPT the buildings.... YOU CAN NOT BUILDINGS WITH AFCAD, you need RWY12 OBJECT PLACER for that. ... but you can shut down runways and default ATC will follow it. What it will NOT do, however is put small A/C on 1 runway and large on another.... the reason why everything takes off on 1 runway is it is FAA Regulations that all aircraft takeoff **into** the wind. just imagine a 777 trying to land on a 3000 foot runway made for a cessna with or WITHOUT wind. This is why they get the 9000 foot + runways; cessnas dont need that much room.

I know first hand that a Beechcraft B1900-D can land and stop with only 1000 feet of runway, i use to work at KCHS Charleston International Airport and we had B1900-D's 4 times a day and 1 pilot would land / stop / turn in 980 feet. he got yelled at all the time, but it can be done.

Thanks for the response guys!

I hope they fix this and many other ATC issues in FS-10.

It just makes me mad, after I create fairly accurate AI traffic and the default ATC clears a 767 and over heavy jets to land on a teeny 3,000 foot runway because of the winds.

At KABE, which I live by, the biggest planes that land on the smaller runway are CRJs and ERJs. The approach is over many local houses and close-by roads, so that clearance to T.O./Land on that particular runway is rare.

I guess the best I can do is close the small runways with AFCAD...
